Job Description Summary
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
The role is for a Senior Power Systems Engineer in GE Vernova's Wide Area Monitoring, Protection and Control (WAMPAC) Centre of Excellence in Edinburgh.
We are committed to addressing the climate crisis through innovative monitoring and control solutions that enable a zero carbon electricity grid. Through the use of our technology, power system owners and operators are increasing the flexibility of the grid to integrate more low carbon energy sources than ever before, and enhancing capability to recognise and resolve threats to the stability and security of the grid. GE Vernova (GEV) is recognized as an Industry Leader in the field of power system stability and WAMPAC. GEV's solutions are used by power system operators and network / asset owners worldwide for improving power system security, securely increasing power transfer levels and analysing power system performance.
Our team works end-to-end from substation to control room, in the fields of power system dynamics, stability, control and performance, covering instrumentation, monitoring & analytics, control systems and modelling. We work closely with customers to develop innovative solutions to emerging problems, design and deliver monitoring software, control solutions and analytical applications. We also provide consulting services around power system performance, model validation, diagnosing stability issues, and more.
We are looking for engineers who are passionate about revolutionising the power system, understand the complexities around low-carbon energy and can apply innovative solutions to bring about change.
Essential Responsibilities
You will play a leading role in our dynamic Power Systems team within our highly collaborative WAMPAC CoE. As one of our senior engineers, you will be a driver of research and design of solutions within the core WAMPAC products and their interaction with related physical and software systems and operational processes - such as the Energy Management System, stability assessment tools and control systems. You will also serve as a technical lead on projects providing consulting and delivery services to customers, working closely with them to address power system problems, deliver our solutions, and shape the future of WAMPAC products.
