What will the Senior/Principal Systems Engineer be doing?

As a Principal or Senior Systems Engineering Consultant in the Aerospace, Defence, Security, and Technology (ADS&T) industry, you will have the opportunity to lead teams utilizing Systems Thinking to analyze, assess, and develop strategies for mitigating engineering risks, including safety, environmental, and cyber threats. The projects you will work on range from niche consultancy assignments to large-scale, high-profile programs, ensuring a constant source of challenges and growth.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engineering outputs within the defined time, cost, and quality parameters as part of the client's engineering service.
  • Formulating and implementing strategies to achieve crucial decision milestones for clients.
  • Providing consultancy to client project and engineering managers.
  • Serving in a senior role within the client's delivery team.
  • Managing multi-party and multidisciplinary teams to execute engineering plans.
  • Developing engineering documentation such as Management Plans, Requirement Strategies, Acceptance Plans, and Architectural Definitions.
  • Collaborating with Subject Matter Experts to capture requirements, identify risks, and explore solution options.
  • Conducting technical analysis and providing recommendations.
  • Engaging with the broader industry to understand and shape potential solutions.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities and contributing to the growth of ADS&T.
  • Delivering analysis reports to identify key risks and areas for improvement.
  • Participating in or leading design reviews.
  • Implementing quality assurance measures to meet both corporate and client expectations.
  • Ensuring client acceptance of a range of engineering deliverables.

 

Your qualifications and skills should include:

  • A degree (Level 6 or above) in a relevant discipline such as engineering, mathematics, science, software, or equivalent experience in an engineering field.
  • Professional recognition from an appropriate institution, such as CEng or CSEP.
  • Senior-level experience in areas such as integrating complex systems (including military and civilian platforms), applying systems engineering processes across the lifecycle, managing projects and teams using various development methods, utilizing tools and techniques for requirement capture and solution design (e.g., Model Based Systems Engineering), and knowledge of modelling languages and architecture frameworks (e.g., UML/SysML, Archimate, TOGAF, MODAF).
  • Understanding of engineering within the MOD's procurement framework and Knowledge in Defence (KiD).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships.
  • The capability to simplify and explain technical concepts to non-engineers and senior stakeholders.
