Rise to the challenge and join us in the Programme Delivery Practice as a Deputy Delivery Director in the Strategic Weapons (SW) account.The SW account forms part of our Aerospace and Defence market where Atkins has established a significant presence across land,sea,air,and digital domains.

Our Strategic Weapons portfolio has a strong focus on work with AWE and the Defence Nuclear Organisation at the heart of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise.

An account that values client intimacy, we engage with our clients at every tier of their organisations to deliver a diverse,outcomes-driven portfolio with significant expertise across design, engineering, nuclear safety,asset management,digital and transformation propositions (amongst others).

This is an area of the market in which Atkins has shown significant growth and is widely recognised as a key UK market focus - with a very strong potential pipeline.Because of this growth we are investing further in the right skills to allow us to build a sustainable account model for the future and deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.

Your purpose:

We are seeking an experienced Project Director to work within the Strategic Weapons (SW) Account in a role with a broad remit supporting and leading delivery within the account.The account is

responsible for delivering a broad spectrum of engineering and Transformation & Change services for its client base that consists of AWE, its supply chain,and the Defence Nuclear Organisation.

There are further opportunities for growth within our clients.To allow the account to achieve this, the delivery function leadership needs to be strengthened with an increased capacity and focus on efficient and assured project delivery,stakeholder management and bidding / business development in existing fields of play.

This role is focused upon leading and delivering complex multidisciplinary engineering and consultancy programmes and services to our Strategic Weapons clients.Our clients rely on Atkins’ delivery expertise and experience to help them shape and realise some of the most challenging programmes in their portfolios which are of critical importance to UK national defence.

The role will require the appointed individual to closely support the SW Account Delivery Director, assisting them with a range of business and operational activities and acting as their delegate.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as Project Director for a substantial number of projects within the Account, and therefore

Accountable to our Business for the successful delivery of complex technical programmes on behalf of our clients.

  • Leading Atkins teams in execution of major assignments on behalf of our client, with the provision of oversight and leadership to multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Able to anticipate and co-ordinate responses to client business needs.
  • Responsibility for the overall management and delivery of technical quality (outputs), commercial performance,and ongoing client satisfaction.
  • Support the delivery of the account strategy and vision.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and engagement skills, specifically with client’s senior decision makers and project stakeholders, to manage escalated issues and develop strong relationships in support of ongoing delivery and business development.
  • Support and mentoring / coaching of Project Managers to aid their personal and professional development and increase the project management maturity and capability within the team.
  • Support the drive to deliver innovation, technical and project management excellence,

knowledge sharing,and process standardisation / optimisation across our Business and clients.

  • Contribute to business development and bid production with existing clients, including review and approval of bids in line with the Atkins Levels of Authority.Engaging with key senior client personnel and the account Client Manager to identify needs and to develop value

propositions that will enhance current delivery performance for the client and our Business.

  • Lead the delivery of work in line with high regulated quality management environments in support of but not limited to internal and external audit processes.
  • Foster teamwork and commitment to the Atkins behavioural standards.
  • Support the SW Delivery Director with activities including but not limited to

Financial budgeting,planning,and reporting.

  • Generation of management information.
  • Resource demand forecasting and interfacing with resource management to support client opportunities and ensure skills and capacity meet client needs.
  • Deputise for the Delivery Director as and when required.
  • Support the Delivery Director and Account Leads to ensure that Bids and Projects are resourced with appropriate resources to deliver.

      What you can bring:

  • Proven experience operating in similar leadership position, managing within industry or public-sector client organisations,delivering significant complex technical programmes in a collaborative working environment.
  • Able to demonstrate performance driven behaviours, measurable results in large and multi-discipline environments in both complex technical delivery and transformational activities.
  • Demonstration of clear consulting experience and client centric behaviours with strong communication skills;able to effectively interface with clients, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable performance and ownership of a large profit and loss account.
  • Strong collaborative behaviours to interface with client, contractors, other supply chain partners and the wider stakeholder communities.
  • Strong demonstrable commercial acumen (understands contracts and able to manage internal and external change effectively).Additionally is able to support robust negotiations, balancing relationship and business need aspects.
  • Good knowledge and experience of implementing and operating and potentially changing Project Governance,Controls and Reporting processes related to Planning,Risks/Issues, Finance and Change Management.
  • Good knowledge of financial processes including project cost control and ability to interpret and report financial data and analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in mentoring / coaching and project management capability development.
  • Ability to travel to Silchester/Reading area fairly regularly would be beneficial due to the need to converse with clients face to face.However,work at offices/home fully expected and routinely observed in the current team.
  • MOD Security Clearance (or ability to obtain this) is an essential requirement of the role.
