Functional Safety Engineer

Our client, a large government customer, is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer join their team in Weybridge, with one day per week working from home.

Initial contracts will run for 6 months and rate will be discussed at application stage.

IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. This engagement has been assessed by the public body as Inside IR35 legislation. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement.

This role requires CTC or SC (Security Check) clearance. Applicants require active CTC or SC clearance or the eligibility/willingness to go through clearance once in role. Candidates with current clearance will be preferred but BPSS candidates will be accepted.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to provide the Assurance Function, within the Property Science Facilities (DgP SF) with in-house capability in respect of Functional Safety. As Functional Safety Engineer, you will be required to work within the Assurance Function for the high microbiological containment facilities within DgP SF. You will also be responsible for providing functional safety support to projects and will be actively involved in the specification, design, implementation, operations and maintenance phases of the safety life cycle.

You will report to the Corporate Safety Advisor and will take a proactive approach to identifying the Scientific Estate functional safety management requirements and developing and implementing suitable plans to meet those requirements. You will have access to a Functional Safety Management Consultancy support partnership which you will work closely with, to ensure that a high-quality customer service is provided to both internal and external stakeholders. Initially this will include working alongside an on-site Functional Safety Consultant who will provide support and guidance.

You will work closely with senior and functional managers, including support services such as engineering and sub-contractors, to assess their needs and ensure the delivery of the Functional Safety Management policy and plans for DgP SF.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Substantial experience in a related engineering position with on-site experience.
• A working knowledge of Functional Safety standards IEC 61508 / 61511 and their application in high-hazard industries.
• Experience of effectively completing analysis of data, reports and legislation.
• A track record of using analysis of data to inform decision making.
• Problem solving skills and the ability to explain things in a clear and concise way.
• Confidence in making presentations and public speaking.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• The ability to balance conflicting priorities and meet personal and directorate targets within a fluctuating and demanding workload.

Candidate Eligibility

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, this role will not offer Visa sponsorship. Tier 2 – General visas cannot be accepted. This role requires that candidates be willing to undergo BPSS (DS) Baseline Personnel Security Standard (with a Disclosure Scotland).
