The IT & Digital department is responsible for the force’s adoption and use of information and digital technology. The department consists of three core functions as follows:

· Architecture Management (responsible for identifying and selecting the right technologies for the force)

· Delivery Management (responsible for delivering and implementing the right technologies for the force)

· Service Management (responsible for managing and maintaining all live, operational technology for the force)

The Architecture Management function is responsible for ensuring the department understands current and future requirements for the force, understands the technology marketplace, and as a result identifies opportunities for leveraging information and digital technology to benefit the force. This function governs and maintains the Enterprise Architecture for West Midlands Police, ensuring that all work undertaken across the force adheres to the force’s standards, design principles and architecture. This function is responsible for translating organisational requirements into technical requirements and designs that can be implemented via internal or external resource. It operates the Technical Design Authority which is responsible for assessing and selecting appropriate technologies to service organisational needs.

Technologies such as Cloud, Artificial Intelligence, Automation and Mobility are underpinning policing at West Midlands Police.  The User Experience team is focussed on the concept of Strategy implementation and the delivery of exceptional user experience across technology applications for Police Officers and staff.

The role of Senior Experience Analyst sits within the User Experience team, as part of the wider Architecture function.  The Senior User Experience Analyst role will lead on the analysis of our Police Officer and Staff journeys as they consume our technology; spotting issues in current process and systems – and offering ideas/innovative ways to improve those user journeys and subsequent experiences. 

 

The post holder reports to the Lead Architect Manager but will be expected to work without direct supervision and will be required to make decisions using their own initiative and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifying “pain points” in existing systems/processes and user journeys across a myriad of systems.
  • Using creative thinking and innovative analytical approaches to solving complex problems, whilst maintaining strategic awareness of technology position, including the creation of mathematical models to triage/prioritise opportunities as they are identified.
  • Leading User Experience Workshops using a variety of tools and methods to engage participation of audience and drive practical results.
  • Producing engaging technical solutions, complex proposals and mini-designs to articulate new user experience opportunities to a proposal level for decision making, using wireframes or other graphical models and toolsets.
  • Present formally to a range of senior stakeholders, for example technical experts and senior leadership teams and suppliers.
  • Line manage individuals, including performance appraisals, workload and wellbeing.

Essential:

Must demonstrate proven experience and ability to:

  • Demonstrate and apply comprehensive technical knowledge of a technical domain (Infrastructure, Applications, Cloud Services, Integrations, Identity, Authentication or End User Devices) as they relate to user experience.
  • Use specialist technical skillsets (previous support or implementation experience) of System Integration technologies, in particular Message Queue Systems and RESTful APIs and awareness of Microsoft Cloud/Azure technologies around M365, including identity and authentication methods.
  • Use specialist technical skillsets in a relevant domain area (Infrastructure, Applications, Cloud Services, Integrations, Identity, Authentication or End User Devices), including the ability to confidently discuss Database technologies and awareness of their operation how they relate to data and table structures.
  • Demonstrate a background of championing User Experience and the key principles and drivers behind excellent UX.
  • Demonstrate a keen eye for detail & an understanding of the what makes a flow user friendly, accessible & simple for the end users.
  • Monitor and Analyse User behaviour across systems and platforms and be able to visualise those journeys using a variety of tools/techniques.

Desirable:

  • An IT cloud related certification from one of the public cloud providers (AWS, Microsoft, Oracle or Google) at Associate level is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in formal board participation and governance.
  • ITIL Foundation certificate or demonstrable skills that the ITIL principles are understood in the context of the role.

Vetting 
Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Medical
Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
