The Royal St Helena Police (RSHP) comprises of a Chief of Police, a Detective Chief Inspector, three Inspectors (including the Training Inspector, who line manages this post), five Sergeants (including one Detective Sergeant) and 19 Constables (including three Detective Constables).  Working alongside the uniform policing teams, you will establish a trust-based relationship with learners, collaborating to identify their individual needs and developing mutually agreed expectations of roles and responsibilities.  In addition, the RSHP has one Inspector, one Sergeant and three Constables based on Ascension Island, and it may occasionally be necessary for you to travel there in order to provide learning support to those officers.

You will tutor and support learners through specific and risk-managed work-based scenarios, assessing their progress against learning outcomes and/or assessment criteria agreed with the Training Inspector.  Using your professional knowledge, you will plan, prepare and facilitate learning opportunities and provide review sessions with learners.  You will help them to build evidence of their progress and competence, and develop action plans for their professional development.  Having a structured approach to the tutoring process, you apply an understanding of human behaviour to the identification of barriers to performance and learning, and to identifying appropriate development actions

You will have experience of coaching, mentoring and tutoring and broad policing experience, including neighbourhood (community) policing, response policing, custody, crime investigation and working in partnership with external stakeholders. You will also understand current policing challenges, efficiency and diversity issues.          

In addition, you must demonstrate a commitment to the Royal St. Helena Police Service Code of Ethics and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.  As a police officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena and Ascension Island.
