Technical Comms Writer – Inside IR35
Contract Term: 6 Months (Possible Extension)
Contracting Authority: Cabinet Office
Location: Hybrid/Manchester/Bristol
(SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role)

We are currently working with the Cabinet Office to recruit for an experienced Technical/Communications Writer. This is a role which ideally requires a background in writing technical content (User Guides / Instruction Manuals / Documentation / Technical Guidance etc.
 
The role will also involve communicating with various stakeholders utilising the full range of channels to positively communicate changes and new services to a wide audience including updating the intranet, blog posts, user guides and responding to user feedback.
 
This is a role which requires a background in writing documentation and delivering effective communication via various channels. You will have strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, specifically in relation to extracting knowledge from technical and process experts.

As a Technical Comms Writer your main responsibilities would be to: 
•    Develop technical documentation for internal Cabinet Office users, including end to end service documentation, and technical guidance within agreed timescale and quality standards.
•    Work with technology and process experts on a variety of teams to get an in-depth understanding of relevant programmes, projects and topics to develop content for multiple complex changes and services and translate complex information articulately and comprehensively to a large user base with varying levels of technical ability.
•    Communicate with stakeholders at all levels including managing senior stakeholder expectations.
•    Utilising the full range of channels to positively communicate changes and new services to a wide audience including updating the intranet, blog posts, user guides and responding to user feedback.
•    Work closely with the Delivery team to create and maintain a communication plan for all projects to contribute to the planning and delivery of the team’s portfolio roadmap.
•    Contribute to the Change Authority Board by preparing technical communications in a non-technical manner for new services and changes to IT services (for example, the release of new IT features or conveying important service disruptions).
•    Use a variety of tools and software to maintain and update users and group distribution lists.
•    Lead the existing IT service communications processes, reviews and approvals whilst driving improvement through standardisation and stakeholder feedback loops.
•    Understand GOV.UK style guide and align content appropriately.
•    Showcase your work and help promote technical writing across government, including as published onto GOV.UK Skills and experience.


You’ll have relevant experience in:
•    Active SC/CTC Clearance.
•    Writing skills with Technology/IT background.
•    Using WordPress and Google Workspaces tools (such as Google Forms and Groups) to understand, prepare and publish/communicate new or updated information.
•    Understanding of technology and the user needs of technologists to effectively translate and write technical communications or documentation for infrastructure related services to a non-technical audience.
•    Writing non-technical comms - For a non-technical audience (Basic Instruction guides/Instructions for non-technical users).
•    Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, specifically in relation to extracting knowledge from technical and process experts.
•    An ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver to deadlines while coordinating work across distributed teams
•    Ability to identify and deliver the most appropriate type of content (for example, written or visual) for a particular user need.
•    A positive and proactive approach to service delivery and getting things done.
•    The confidence to showcase your work, challenge poor documentation practices, and receive constructive feedback from peers.
•    Understanding of agile working practices and working with agile team.
