This role provides systems safety engineering expertise to internal safety engineering programmes. Undertaking all systems safety activities in support of UK safety cases for modifications to aerospace platforms, aircraft systems and training equipment as the need arises.
Programme Requirement
Boeing Defence UK is looking for a System Safety Engineer based in Bristol or Yeovil. Reporting to the BDUK Aircraft safety Engineering Manager and working directly for the Chinook Lead Safety Engineer. The role is to undertake development of aircraft System Safety activities in support of the UK MOD.

Position Responsibilities
The role has the following key responsibilities:
- Development of Operational, Product and System Safety artefacts and associated documentation in accordance with Defence Standard 00-056 for the Chinook programme such as the generation of:
- Project/Programme Safety Management Plans.
- Identification of applicable legislation and regulations
- Hazard Logs
- Safety Cases, Safety Case Reports and Safety Arguments.
- Ensure close liaison with other Boeing, customer and supplier technical disciplines to ensure appropriate evidence is available to support the Safety Case.
- Proactively support customer safety meetings and chair System Safety Working Groups
- Identify, supervise and execute risks, issues and opportunities and support the development of mitigation plans.
- Identify and apply appropriate safety legislation and regulations
- Proactively support the further development, maintenance, review and update of safety process.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience developing Safety Cases for complex systems and aircraft Training equipment and/or Services
- Understand and have experience of applying Safety Techniques on complex aircraft systems
Preferred Experience, Education & Skills:
- Formal System Safety training would be highly desirable
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent
- Proven experience leading and developing Safety Assessments for MoD aircraft and/or ground based systems
- Previous industry Safety Engineering experience in the application of Def Stan 00-056 or POSMS.
- Experience developing Safety Management Systems and in-service management of Safety Cases, and Hazard Logs.
- Understanding and experience of applying Safety Techniques to Safety Related Data and Information Systems
- Experience with the use of common safety tools, specifically CASSANDRA, Adelard Assurance and Safety Case Environment
- Demonstrating the ability to plan of work, and develop/use meaningful metrics to evaluate safety status and provide performance visibility
- Ability to optimally identify and execute opportunities to improve strategies, processes and project plans
- Experience of developing resource workload plans and schedules
- Experience of providing safety support into bids and proposals
- Excellent communication skills, technical proficiencies, and skills with project management concepts/tools
- For senior roles, completion of or working towards a post graduate qualification in System Safety Engineering is highly desirable, but not essential
- Familiarity with MAA safety policy and requirements in a military aircraft context.
- Platform or system experience and product knowledge of UK military aircraft.
