Are you an experienced System administrator looking for a challenging role that includes extraction, transformation and loading of large data sets, as well as maintaining the processing systems and software? You will have the opportunity to work on data handling projects with tangible real world impact. We actively support our customers with the delivery of searchable data sets to enable vital decision making in their high level public sector role.

Our firm has been working in partnership with a Government Department for a number of years to provide and develop an electronic archive capability. We are a small team of technical experts who specialise in data management, system analysis and research to provide a full service to our client. We are located within Greater London. 


You will be required to:


•    Investigate and analyse storage media and other hardware to identify archival data.
•    Reconstruct legacy hardware and software environments to facilitate the access of data.
•    Design, implement and/or operate bespoke software tools to extract, transform and load data.
•    Maintain an auditable record of media holdings, data transfers and processing tasks.
•    Comply with mandatory security controls throughout.


Essential skills


•    Windows administration, including active directory, group policy configuration, WSUS updates.
•    Administration of virtualised servers, including VMWare ESX, Linux KVM.
•    Linux administration and configuration, particularly RedHat Enterprise Linux and fully open source derivatives such as CentOS Linux.
•    Scripting and system automation for Linux and Windows using Bash and PowerShell respectively.
•    Network design and administration skills, to include router and switch configuration using Cisco and other manufacturers hardware.
•    Ability to work autonomously, with minimal supervision, with a high attention to detail.
•    Keen to learn new skills, and stay on the cutting edge of technology.
•    Have strong information security skills, including an appreciation of secure handling of data, and understanding of relevant policies and legislation (DPA, GDPR).


Desirable skills


•    Knowledge and experience of a high level programming language, particularly Java or Python would be very useful.
•    Administration of containerised software using docker, including installation and build of new containers.
•    Administration and configuration of services such as MS Sharepoint, Exchange, SQL (any variant, e.g. SQL Server, My SQL, Oracle), Apache HTTPd, Samba.
•    Java application server configuration, e.g. tomcat, wildfly.
•    Automation tools, particularly Ansible for Linux. Ability to run existing, and develop new playbook files.
•    Professional certification, e.g. RHCSA, CCNA. Relevant university education welcome.


Eligiblity


This role requires the individual to hold a current SC or DV security clearance.
