Working Regime: 3 days, 3 nights - 6 days off (On-Call for 3 days)

The job opportunity:

Serco are currently recruiting Armoury Support Staff to join the Armoury team based at RAF Brize Norton. Successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to complete a Small Arms Maintainer Course at RAF Cosford. On successful completion of the course individuals will be awarded the Small Arms Maintainer Qualification Q-W-GDSA.

The Key purpose of the role is to provide the Serco Brize Norton Armoury Supervisor, Engineering Bays Manager and the "Authority" RAF Brize Norton support to ensure the effective delivery of Serco Armoury output - ensuring that the products and services delivered always meet the required standard and comply with regulatory requirements.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Issue, Receipt and Storage of Small Arms weapons & ancillaries.
  • Preparation of Small Arms weapons, ancillaries and associated paperwork for Out-Of-Area (OOA) deployments.
  • Recording of weapons transactions.
  • Management of Weapons Allocation Database.
  • Carry out Daily Check of Arms on all Small Arms weapons held.


On successful completion of Small Arms Maintainer Course, additional responsibilities will also include:

  • The servicing, maintenance and rectification of Small Arms weapons and associated ancillary equipment held within the Brize Norton Serco Armoury.
  • Management of weapon records on the JAMES Management Information System.
  • The control of weapons and associated armament documentation and publications.
  • Provision of Serco Armoury activities and output ensuring effective, efficient, "right first time every time" output to our customers.
  • Ensuring a record of individual training and experience is kept up to date and available for review.
  • Ensuring that they comply with appropriate work procedures and have an effective working knowledge of current regulatory requirements. Including the Serco Management System, appropriate MoD legislation, BSI ISO, HASAW Act and local Serco and RAF Brize Norton processes and procedures.


What do I need to do the job?

Essential skills and experience:

  • Engineering BTEC ONC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • This is a great opportunity for someone with experience of working within an Armoury environment. However, candidates without Armoury experience will also be considered. Must be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge, background and satisfactory experience related to handling of Small Arms weapons.
  • The ability to successfully implement and apply relevant Government legislation, MoD legislation, Serco and RAF Brize Norton processes and procedures.
  • Must co-operate and support Audit and Quality reporting and systems.
  • Must be physically fit, responsible, sound of mind and not addicted to the consumption of alcoholic liquors or drugs.
  • The minimum standard for eyesight colour perception is CP2.
