Salary: £28,706 plus benefits

Permanent (Full-Time, 40 Hrs)

Here at HMP Dovegate, it takes a whole team of people to keep the facility safe, secure and in proper working order. You will report into the Facilities Manager & Senior Engineer and work alongside a team of multi-skilled engineers within the Facilities Services team, carrying out routine general plumbing and fitting work as well as preventative maintenance and repairs.

As our new Plumber, you will carry out fault finding and defect rectification to items of installed plant and equipment as may be defined and specified, as and when required. You will carry out investigations into the performance of the plant and equipment installed in the site and to produce related reports and recommendations. Your role will be key to supporting the function, especially in the challenging environment of a secure establishment so this position calls for leadership and setting visible standards of personal performance & accountability, and you will be expected to function with a degree of independence. Other key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in specifying and obtaining spare parts, and other items of equipment which may be required to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of the technical estate
  • Escorting contractors around the site as and when required in accordance with written procedures.
  • Assisting in multi-trade support of other members of the FM team.

Overall, this is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a supportive team and taking pride in what they do as we are a tight-knit unit within the Prison.

What you will need to do the role:

We are looking for someone who holds a recognised Plumbing qualification (C&G, NVQ). As you will be assisting in multi-trade support within the team, we would also consider relevant certifications or licences that will allow you to aid in these areas. Although experience working in a security/custodial environment would be desirable, this is not essential.

A key part of this role is to be pro-active and this will be achieved by commitment to customer satisfaction and striving for continuous improvement in your working approach, including the ability to prioritise workload, using your own initiative and working in a logical and methodical manner to tight timescales. You will be confident in your ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both in writing and orally. It is important that you have a flexible and common-sense approach to work, as the role will include being a member of the facilities 'Out of Hours' call out roster, as and when required.
