Clyde
The Senior Safety Case Engineer is based within our Clyde business area.
As the Ministry of Defence's commercial partner at HMNB Clyde, Babcock provides specialist engineering support services, including the management of infrastructure and nuclear facilities. We also deliver operational maintenance, upgrades and repairs to support Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute-Class nuclear submarines.

The role
The difference our new Senior Safety Case Engineer will make

As a Senior Safety Case Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will be accountable for maintenance of the Clyde Site Safety Case and the Port Safety Case including the need to modernise them in line with industry relevant good practice.

Day to day, you'll deliver your safety case projects from concept through to fully approved by the customer's (Authorisation Condition 13) safety committees. Leading your team of 5 Engineers and managing ~7 subcontractors to manage safety case projects that span ~10 Nuclear Facility Safety Cases delivering all projects to time, cost, and quality.
The role includes the need to act as the Project Manager for the Periodic Safety Review (PSR) (Authorisation Condition 15). Supervising and planning the PSR workload whilst deconflicting the ongoing Infrastructure modernisation projects, which have a significant degree of complexity.

Essential experience
• Bachelor's Degree in engineering/ science (or relevant HM Forces qualifications).
• Professionally Registered (from an Engineering or Science Institute) or the willingness to attain Incorporated or Chartered status.
• We are looking to speak with Safety Case Engineers who have proven experience in the delivery of modern safety cases following Office of Nuclear Regulation guidance.
• Must be good at working effectively as an individual or in teams; flexibly and resourcefully.
• Proven experience of managing projects or sub-contractors work packages with experience and familiarisation of MS Project to ensure that the Project is delivered to cost, as well as Risk Management to evaluate impact on Project Delivery.
• Must be eligible to gain and maintain UK SC level security clearance.
• Demonstrable experience in either NP or NW Safety Case delivery, with experience of Hazard Analysis, Deterministic and Probabilistic assessment, assessing ALARP argument and ensuring the validity of claims, arguments and evidence.
• Good skills in verbal and written communication.
• The ability to effectively manage and prioritise your own and a team's workload.
• You will hold or have the ability to obtain SC clearance
