We are responsible for engaging the public and the media on a wide variety of policing operations, from serious and violent crime to neighbourhood policing, producing news and appeals on all types of crime, working with the best documentary makers in the country and enhancing public confidence by developing engaging communications for diverse communities across our 10 districts.

We engage with the public and delivering two-way conversations, we work to build public, staff and stakeholder trust and confidence by making sure people are informed and involved.

The Role

The Media Office team is looking for two creative and proactive Team Leaders to help take our communications activity to the next level, and there has never been a better time to join one of the most fast-paced, exciting and varied communications jobs on the market.

The Media Office is looking for Team Leaders with a positive, proactive, and a can-do attitude. The ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate skills which would allow them to help lead the team in delivering a new and innovative news information service on behalf of GMP, including creating engaging communications for the media, social media and the wider public, a keen-eye for monitoring and evaluating the news agenda and identifying potential reputational risks, coming up with new ideas for engaging with our audiences, whilst also providing sound and rational advice on media matters to senior officers.

The ideal candidate would be expected to demonstrate experience of media handling, working well in a fast-paced environment, a strong team ethic and key skills for managing the day-to-day running of the GMP Media Office.

Successful candidates will be expected to work as part of a nine week rota, on 6.30-2.30pm, 8-4pm, 10-6pm and 11-7pm. You will be on-call to the force 24/7 for one week in nine, again on a rota basis. The team are moving to a more agile way of working with a mix of working from home during on call and from within Force Headquarters.

The role of Media Officer Team leader attracts a 2.22% weekend enhancement and a 12.5% shift allowance.
