There are a number of vacancies available to join our forward looking Prosecution Hub, based at Cannock Police Station and Smithfield Hanley.

Successful candidates will be responsible for the comprehensive management of a case file, both volume traffic and crime related, on receipt from an OIC (officer in the case) through the Criminal Justice System to its outcome; registering, building/preparing and submitting case files in accordance with non-negotiable prosecution deadlines.    

As part of comprehensive case management, the post holders maintain contact with victims and witnesses throughout the lifecycle of a case and provide support for victims and witnesses in the lead up to and conclusion proceedings. Post holders have a responsibility to recognise vulnerability when liaising with victims and witnesses and are able to refer or signpost them to the appropriate support services. 

Candidates will be required to work on Guilty Anticipated Plea (GAP), which may be heard within a Magistrates Court setting, and volume traffic cases arising from the Staffordshire Safer Roads Project team and Police Officer prosecution files. Initial Remand in Custody files and files submitted to the CPS for prosecution advice will fall under the responsibility of the post holder. As a result successful candidates will be expected to show adeptness in and understanding of the National File Standard and a working understanding of current Criminal Justice initiatives, such as Better Case Management and Transforming Summary Justice.

Candidates will be required to work on Guilty Anticipated Plea (GAP) and basic Not Guilty (NGAP), which may be heard within a Magistrates Court setting, and volume traffic cases arising from the Staffordshire Safer Roads Project team and Police Officer prosecution files.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills for such tasks as communicating with CPS and Magistracy when appropriate, conducting telephone statements, despatching compensation forms, maintaining record management systems and tasking OICs as necessary.

Alongside the management of their own caseload, the post holder will upon completion of training, be expected to offer and provide coaching / mentoring / appropriate guidance to colleagues within the Prosecution Hub, to engender a learning culture. 

Knowledge & Qualifications 

Demonstrate working knowledge or agree to undertake learning (support and learning materials will be provided) in areas of policy, procedure, traffic and criminal law.  

Demonstrate an ability to compile professional, grammatically correct reports and letters. 

Demonstrable experience and regular use of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, thirds party bespoke software and be prepared to learn new computer packages/force networked systems. 

Working hours

Flexi Time working, 37 hours per week. Saturday working is required on a published rota basis.
