With a strong understanding of best practices such as Government Digital Services (GDS) Service Manual; Human Computer Interface principles; ISO 9241-210: 2010 - Ergonomics of human-system interaction and User Centred Design methodology, the User researcher role is a primary end-user advocate who produces interactive experiences that engage even the most discerning audiences.

They are research and data enthusiast who plan, design and carry out research activities with users that help teams get a deep understanding of the people that use interactive systems. All levels of research inform proposition, service, content and interaction design by providing simple yet engaging thematic insights, that stakeholders and colleagues will be able to consume, analyse and build interactive experiences that champion users needs.

The role of a User Researcher Consultant is expansive in that they can operate across key phases such as Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live to ensure iterative UCD refinements. A user researcher is an experienced practitioner who is able to plan and lead user research activities in larger teams and on complex services. They implement research, needs and behavioural analysis insights.

Key Accountabilities

All roles in our Digital Experience community require a passion for creating digital experiences which delight and inspire diverse audiences. We employ UR consultants to capture, analyse and advise teams and clients on how to build digital experiences that are empathetic to user needs and drive measurable business results. Key accountabilities / duties;

  • Leading a team of UR or collaborating on larger projects or programmes of a highly complex and business critical nature.
  • Deliver and/or manage teams to deliver outstanding user research and behavioural analysis.
  • Be a negotiator of change acting on behalf of end users but within the constraints of the art of the possible as well as ensuring that business objectives are adhered to
  • Represent BAE in direct client engagement both with senior sponsors and key stakeholders through collaborative working, reporting, facilitating key workshops, reviews and testing events and more.
  • Lead client presentations
  • Write up case studies and proposition / sales support materials from projects
  • Support business development activities including aiding sales proposals and pitches
  • Present ideas and concepts to clients or account managers with supporting rationale and thought process explaining how they address business and user needs.
  • Manage and lead a teams (BAE Systems and/or client) working across a number of work streams and provide both direction and objectives
  • Manage the Risks and Issues arising on the Project and communicate as necessary
