Software Engineer
Farnborough, Hampshire / Hybrid working

Software Engineer required by a thriving cutting-edge next generation innovative technology company within the Defence and Security sector, based in Farnborough, Hampshire. The Software Engineer will ideally be Security Cleared to SC level (or willing to undergo clearance) and have strong commercial experience with either C# .NET or Java, NodeJS, React, TypeScript, Kubernetes, Docker, Microservices, REST, Agile methodology and CI / CD.

A few details about the role
As a Software Engineer in a cutting-edge technology environment, you will have a challenging, vastly interesting, and technically diverse role. Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing / writing secure, simple, testable, maintainable code
  • Working on internal systems as well as with external clients / systems
  • Working on existing systems and optimising performance
  • Working on greenfield development / engineering projects, both internally and externally
  • Communicating through all areas of the business

What you will need
Unfortunately desire alone is not enough. As a Software Engineer you will also need:

  • Strong C# .NET and/or Java
  • Agile methodologies/practices including Test Driven Development
  • Git
  • Experience in microservices architecture, including an understanding of containers and serverless implementation. This will include Kubernetes, Docker, Microservices, REST
  • NodeJS / TypeScript / React / Redux / Jest
  • Container technologies using Kubernetes / K8S
  • Linux / Windows
  • Use of Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery
  • Team player
  • Self-starter with drive, keen to work in a small team
  • Thirst for new skills
  • Either holds or has recently held government security clearance already, or is suitable for and willing to go through the vetting process (suitability would include an absence of a serious criminal record, a right to work and live in UK and, preferably, a record of 5 years’ UK residency)
  • Knowledge and experience of DevOps, CI/CD principles and their application in secure environments (nice to have)
  • Appreciation of the constraints and requirements imposed on development within secure, safety critical environments (nice to have)
  • Scripting (nice to have)
  • GitLab (nice to have)
  • Kafka (nice to have)
  • NiFi (nice to have)
  • Java / Spring (nice to have)
  • No-SQL stores e.g. ElasticSearch, MongoDB (nice to have)
  • OAuth (nice to have)
  • Jfrog Artefactory (nice to have)
  • HashiCorp Vault (nice to have)
  • Synopsys Coverity & Seeker (nice to have)
