Job description for SDA Senior Safety Engineer

The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), has rewarding and challenging career opportunities for experienced engineers to join our teams. You will integrate with groups of highly skilled professionals, operating as safety and environmental engineering authorities to oversee complex submarine systems challenges unique to this industry, significantly impacting the success of our projects/programmes.

As a valued representative of the SDA, you will interface with key suppliers and stakeholders to deliver assurance safety requirements and ensure deliverables are aligned with project/programme schedules. Once established, you will work with elite submarine systems to become our most experienced and knowledgeable safety representative on your respective site.

Training is readily available, invested in and essential to stay abreast with new technologies and you will be working in an environment that encourages this.

  Responsibilities for SDA Senior Safety Engineer

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Support the development and maintenance of policy and process to satisfy the SDA corporate standards for Acquisition Safety and / or Environmental Management.
  • Establish and implement an appropriate Safety and / or Environmental Management System through the application of DE&S policy.
  • Work with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK and EU legislation and regulations, MOD regulations and SDA Policy.
  • Set up, run and maintain Safety and / or Environmental Management Systems at Project level.
  • Oversee and commission work and control Systems Safety and / or Environmental portfolios.
  • Provide advice and support with Systems Safety and/or Environmental Management Systems to senior safety responsible / safety responsible colleagues.

  Person Specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineering or Science professional affiliation or has demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
  • Extensive experience in the use of Safety and/or Environmental Management Tools & Processes
  • Substantial experience in a system safety and / or environmental protection role and experience of developing a Safety and / or Environmental Management System
  • A minimum of Level 4 qualification in a relevant engineering or science discipline or equivalent experience
