Industry Engagement Strategy Lead (Inside IR35)

 

Contract Term: 2 Years

 

Contracting Authority: DSTL

 

Location: Hybrid

 

The Dstl Space Systems Programme requires a senior engagement lead who has demonstrable experience in engaging, influencing and supporting all sizes of space industry partners from SME’s to primes.

 

The role requires an industry experienced leader with the ability to communicate at all levels about where the cutting edge of technology is being developed and where UK MOD can benefit or influence future roadmaps. This individual must have excellent verbal and written communications skills with ability to interact at all levels from engineers to executive and senior stakeholders.

 

This individual must have current experience and knowledge of the UK Space Sector and must be prepared to understand and translate MOD customer needs and expectations from the UK military space community be it generation after next concepts or more mature requirements for Space Command.

 

As a Industry Engagement Strategy Lead your main responsibilities would be: 

 

  • Work with the Dstl Space Systems Programme Leadership Team to understand current and future priorities
  • Own, plan and deliver the Dstl “Space Industry Engagement Strategy”
  • Review and map current and future capabilities and areas of focus for UK Space Industry
  • Establish and manage an enduring framework to share ideas and information between MOD and industry with regards to MOD Space ambitions
  • Identify areas of opportunity for dual use capabilities through current industry capabilities or other UK Government applications (MET Office etc) Monitor, assess and control the Industry Engagement function to measure its value and adapt/amend the strategy as appropriate.
  • Create an overview of the UK Space landscape and the existing mechanisms and frameworks for supplier engagement both in Dstl and across Government.
  • Where mechanisms do not exist for enterprise engagement with industry, seek to establish new routes (e.g. strategic supplier partners where appropriate, SME engagement mechanisms)
  • Build strong working relationships across the space sector, MOD/wider Government, and internally within Dstl
  • Identify or create an environment where industry partners will feel comfortable sharing their ideas in open forum Build an understanding of existing networks between Dstl and industry (including the Defence and Security Accelerator) that could be used for space related technology Build an understanding of where industry PV, Venture Capital investment and other forms of finance, are focused and find opportunities to bring to bear existing supplier capability Work with UK Space Command, UK Space Agency, and other partners across Government to ensure management and exploitation of knowledge of key suppliers and technology developments, using shared toolsets to identify any gaps in industry focus where technology must be developed “in-house” by Dstl

 

 

You’ll have relevant experience in:

Essential

  • Previous experience working across the UK space industry.
  • Proven experience of building strong working relationships across multiple organisations Dealing widely with internal and external stakeholders
  • Working optimally within a team. Flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • Working to tight timescales. Ability to be robust and negotiate to achieve successful outcomes for all parties.
  • Exemplary communication skills both verbal and written. Confidently present to large audiences.

Desirable

 

  • Knowledge and experience of technology acquisition within government.
  • Experience of doing things differently (within legal and commercial frameworks).
  • Government Commercial experience. An understanding of procurement and commercial processes.

Essential Requirements

  • SC/CTC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role; as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks

 

Desirable Requirements
