We are recruiting Customer Service apprentices to work within our Force Contact Centre and would like to attract a wide range of people from our diverse communities across Greater Manchester. Apprentices perform a vital role within GMP, providing excellent customer service and administrative support to members of the public, internal colleagues and partners.

The Force Contact Centre provides a critical service to the people of Greater Manchester. Each year, the branch deals with approximately 2.5 million emergency and non-emergency calls, by responding to local and individual needs, through our call handling and command and control service. By being professional and reassuring, our staff and officers deal with a whole spectrum of incidents and events, often making life critical decisions about how calls are responded to.

As a Customer Service apprentice, you will be taking telephone calls from both internal and external customers, dealing with enquiries and recording information. This apprenticeship will involve significant use of IT and excellent communication skills - face to face, telephone and in writing.

The apprenticeship will be for a period of up to 14 months. You will be working from day one but will also be receiving training to complete a Level 2 qualification. You will need to be able to work to high standards, under pressure, whilst treating people with respect and compassion. As you would expect, the highest standard of honesty and integrity is a requirement for this role.

Although you are not expected to be able to carry out all aspects of the role initially, you will need to be able to show an awareness of how to work with others, both customers and internal colleagues as part of a team. You will also need to describe, in your application, why you feel you are suited to working for GMP as an apprentice.

Whilst there are no specific qualifications required, you will need to demonstrate ability in English, and Maths at a level that will allow you to achieve the apprenticeship and to competently carry out the role. You will study for an intermediate (Level 2) apprenticeship in Customer Service.

An attractive and competitive salary is provided: £12,213 per annum, rising to £14,820 per annum (subject to satisfactory attendance, performance and qualification progress) at the 6 month point and £20,604 per annum after 12 months service. Working hours will be 36.25 per week, Monday to Friday, between 7am and 6pm.
