Role:

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to manage and deliver multiple projects through the project lifecycle to Time, Cost and Quality KPIs for the Naval Systems (NS) Business Stream.

Key Responsibilities:

Under direction of the Programme Manager / Senior Project Manager:
  • Work within a business / programme environment, take full responsibility for project (contract) delivery and/or bid activity, with a stong emphasis on subcontract management throughout manufactuire phase
  • Managing customers and liaison with Supply Chain Team
  • Establish & maintain team organisation and communications plans
  • Creation and maintenance of project schedules & expediting of tasks
  • Use appropriate planning techniques to help identify project resource requirements and manage availability with functional managers
  • Work with Supply Chain and Commercial teams to ensure contract baselines, plans and schedules are maintained in line with agreed contract changes
  • Develop & maintain monitoring & control of project deliverables
  • Efficiently deliver clearly focussed customer & company project financial and schedule performance reporting
  • Maintain project risk & opportunity registers(s), arranging regular reviews and communicating in monthly reporting cycle
  • Support development of project management capability to support business & company growth (including managing own personal development)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years project management experience, responsible for contract values in excess of £3m, preferably within the defence sector.

Demonstrable knowledge, skills & experience in the following:
  • Planning contract delivery:
    • Creating & maintaining resourced Project schedules (using Microsoft Project) and associated WBS/OBS/RAM
      • Work package development & assignment
      • Project management plans
      • Resource plans
      • Metric implementation
      • Management of risks and opportunities, through generation, maintainenance and execution of risk and opportunity management plans
      • Ensuring team members follow company and project plans and processes to achieve the required results
      • Compliance with legal, company and project processes, including export-control regulations - ensuring all information and equipment complies with the required regulations and that the team follows mandated processes.
  • Finance tracking, control & reporting:
    • Accurate schedule and finance monitoring and reporting, including detailed financial spreadsheet reporting to reconcile planned with actual expenditure, monthly review of EAC, VAC, ETC, GM, labour and materials expenditure etc.
    • Monitoring of sales and order targets
  • Change control and Baseline management
    • Identification and negotiation of contract variations and deviations
    • Generation of estimates, cost models and proposals
    • Working with subject matter experts and senior managers to ensure that prices and proposals are robustly reviewed and approved
    • Price negotiation with suppliers and customers
    • Embodiment of Change within Contract Baseline
  • Subcontract management
    • Working with supply chain to manage relationship & performance of suppliers and subcontractors
  • Engineering knowledge and management
    • Interfacing with engineering management and team
    • Good understanding and awareness of the 'waterfall' engineering lifecycle
  • People Management
    • Diplomatic management of customers and key suppliers at multiple levels - from engineering/commercial staff meetings to senior management reviews
Special Features:
  • Some travel required to attend meetings in the UK and abroad (including Australia on an occasional basis)
  • SC level security clearance will be required
Experience across some, or all, of following features would be preferred:
  • APM Membership (or equivalent)
  • Project management of Naval or MoD Contracts
  • Project management multi-million pound engineering projects
  • Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline
