Working hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week

HMP Ashfield is a category C male prison based in Bristol. The operational capacity is for 412 prisoners and it takes a whole team of people to keep the facility safe, secure and in proper working order. Serco provide a safe, decent, secure, and respectful environment.

In this role you'll provide specialist electrical expertise and guidance to the operation, supporting the other maintenance operatives across the Midlands and East of England in:

  • Fault finding and rectification
  • The installation or repairs to emergency lighting and fire alarm systems
  • PAT testing and preventative maintenance tasks
  • Ensuring that all maintenance repairs and planned maintenance are carried out in line with relevant legislation/regulation,
  • Working with external suppliers and sub-contractors


In short, you'll be a key member of the field operations team. You won't be doing this alone, however. As well as working with supportive colleagues who are passionate about the work we do, you'll also receive ongoing training and development and a competitive benefits package.

What you need to do the job

You will have C & G Electrical Certificate or other electrical trade qualification. You must have served a recognised trade apprenticeship. You will be qualified to BS7671 (Current Edition of the IEE Regulations). At least 5 years associated trade experience post apprenticeship is required.

Lastly, because of the nature of the work, all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office and you must be able to pass a CRB Clearance and Security Clearance at CTC level (Counter Terrorism Check).
