Finance Business Partner - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 3 months with potential for extension

Contracting Authority: Cabinet Office

Location: remote with occasional (twice a month) office attendance in central London

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role at the heart of the Government Security Group, with visibility supporting the leadership and their teams. The post-holder will help build finance capability across the group and deliver all aspects of the in year financial management across a range of programmes and funding areas. This is an essential role to manage the funding that will enable Government Security to deliver its strategic priorities and long-term vision.

Acting at the heart of Government Security, the post holder will be responsible for all aspects of financial management within the group, developing appropriate reports to ensure key decision-makers have good quality information and insight and ensuring adherence to internal controls and corporate reporting.
Government Security has an exciting vision to deliver over the next five years and this role is a key Finance business partner to ensure the group has the right resources to deliver that.

As a Finance Business Partner, your main responsibilities would be: 

  • Develop the Government Security Groups financial management processes, working with the business and finance colleagues to ensure compliance with all relevant controls. The post holder will be required to work across a wide range of stakeholders, to ensure understanding and build capability.
  • Act as a senior financial partner to help manage all aspects of budget management within the group, testing compliance and understanding of the financial controls and ensuring business cases have the right scrutiny to meet the requirements of the departmental investment committee and Treasury. GSG manages a significant programme portfolio and this requires flexibility to meet the changing demands of the group.
  • Manage the financial commitments, including overseeing all income for shared services are received from customers. GSG has a complex funding structure so it will be vital to work closely with senior managers to understand priorities.
  • Lead the corporate reporting to ensure accurate and credible forecasts are provided on a monthly basis. This will include working with a range of stakeholders to build your understanding of the business and developing appropriate management information and analysis to communicate financial results across GSG. Manage a small team to help deliver the above. Further develop and grow the team as needed to deliver the changing priorities of the Government Security Group. It will be important to ensure members of the team have the appropriate skills and capacity to reach their potential and build a culture of ongoing improvement and innovation throughout the team.

You’ll have relevant experience in:

  • Experience of Finance Business Partnering/Management Accountancy within the Public Sector, preferably the Cabinet Office/Home Office. Experience of large working on and delivering large projects/programmes within the Public Sector. Experience of creating financial reports using a variety of sources and delivering your findings to senior stakeholders (up to Director level). Experience of financial planning. The ability to pay attention to detail to data and interrogate discrepancies/anomalies. Strong communication skills, the ability to present/explain complex information to people who do not share your expertise.

You will also have these Qualifications/Skills:

  • Qualified/part qualified with a Financial/Accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA etc) is desirable.
