£9.65 per hour (rises to £10.18 after 2-year service) + any national staff increases in line with the NHS

Weekend enhancements - Saturday : £13.79 per hour, Sunday : £17.65 per hour.

Various shift patterns available:
  • 6:30AM - 2:30PM (Monday to Friday)
  • 4:00PM - 8:00PM (Monday to Friday)
  • 3:00PM - 8:30PM (Monday to Friday)
  • 7:00AM - 7:00PM (4 on 4 off)


Here at Serco we're looking for Patient Catering Assistants to join us at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital puts its patients at the heart of everything they do. The Hospital cares for the people of Norfolk, north Suffolk and further afield, providing almost one million out-patient appointments, day case procedures and in-patient admissions every year. The hospital has 1,200 beds and state-of-the art facilities and works closely with the University of East Anglia to train health professionals and have a strong focus on research. As a Patient Catering Assistant you will work as an integral part of the Ward catering team ensuring high quality service is provided to the patients. You will be responsible for the co-ordination of the patient meal and beverage services in accordance with the Ward Timing Schedule, and you will contribute and organise the maintenance of a hygienic and clean environment for patients, staff and visitors to ensure the highest standards are met at all times.

What you'll need to do the role

To be considered for this role you will need previous experience working within a ​​​food service environment / catering industry and knowledge of Health & Safety and Hygiene. It is desirable that you have Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification, however this is not essential. You will need strong customer service skills and excellent communication, both written and verbal.

This is a super important role as you are ensuring patients, staff and visitors have access to food and water during their stay at the hospital, so we are looking for people who are passionate about helping others and working within a healthcare environment!
