Applications are invited from candidates who wish to apply to transfer or re-join Thames Valley Police (TVP).

Location: Berkshire, Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire.

Salary: Thames Valley Police adheres to the national pay scales and as such, you will transfer on the same pay increment you currently receive, or did receive before you left the Police Service.

Please note, to apply, you must be a British citizen, or an EU/European Economic Area (EEA) national, Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with Indefinite Leave to Remain or Pre-Settled/Settled status and no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom.

Key Roles you can Transfer/Re-Join into at TVP:

  • Incident and Crime Response Police Constable (PC). Substantive Detective Constable into PCT (priority crime team), CID (Criminal Investigation Department), CAIU (child abuse investigation unit), or DAIU teams (domestic abuse investigation unit).

We also offer opportunities for transferees and re-joiners to go into specialist departments such as:

  • Armed Response Vehicle – dependent on current training. Protection Group – dependent on current training. Contact Management. Temporary Detective Constable (T/DC) into PCT (Priority Crime Team), CID (Criminal Investigation Department), CAIU (Child Abuse Investigation Unit), or DAIU teams (domestic abuse investigation unit); If you are currently a PC and wish to become a Detective Constable (DC), we are able to provide you the opportunity to transfer/re-join as a T/DC.

Here, you will be enrolled onto the National Investigator’s Exam and work through your accreditation to become a substantive DC.

Applicants interested in transferring to TVP must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Currently serve with a Home Office Force, or Ministry of Defence Police, British Transport Police, Channel Isles Police and Isle of Man Police.
  • Have completed their probation period and be confirmed in post by formal offer of appointment.  
  • Have passed the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP), Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA), Police Constable Degree Holder Entry Programme (PC-DHEP), or alternative entry route.  
  • Live within 30 crow miles, 40 road miles and a 1-hour commute of two of our main police stations by formal offer of appointment (TVP Main Police Stations: Oxford, Bicester, Banbury, Witney, Abingdon, Didcot, Aylesbury, Milton Keynes, Newbury, Reading, Loddon Valley, Windsor, Maidenhead, Slough, Wycombe, Amersham). Have no live complaints pending against them. 
  • Hold a full valid UK (United Kingdom) driver’s licence. 

 

Applicants interested in re-joining the police service with TVP must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have previously completed a two-year probationary period and have been confirmed as a substantive at the rank they are applying to re-join. 
  • Live within 30 crow miles, 40 road miles and a 1-hour commute of two of our main police stations by formal offer of appointment.   
  • Hold a full valid UK driver’s licence.
