Greater Manchester Police is one of the largest police forces in the UK and is responsible for keeping its diverse population of almost 3 million safe, spread over more than 1,200 sq. km. Manchester in particular has been billed as the most diverse city in Europe with its population speaking at least 200 different languages, leading to the city being named as Britain's "City of languages". GMP are committed to ensure that the make-up of our workforce is reflective of the communities we serve and we recognise that having a diverse workforce makes us more approachable and relevant to the public.

The Forensic Imaging Unit is a well-established and highly motivated team who are part of the Digital Forensic & Technical Investigation Section of the Forensic Services Department.

Are you experienced in medical or crime scene photography/videography? Do you have experience with E-Fit / EvoFit? Do you have experience with photography and video enhancement? If so we are looking for you to join our Forensic Imaging Unit.

The role will be working within the well-established and highly motivated forensic imaging unit as a Forensic Imaging Specialists.

The role will involve working unsocial hours due to the nature of the work undertaken, working shifts between 0800 and 2300 Monday to Friday, providing a 24/7 on call service outside of these hours to support investigations, utilising specialist photography/videography, including 360 virtual tours, attending post mortems to record/photograph the process, working closely with pathologists, and then de-sensitizing images for use in court. The role will also be responsible for putting together the digital court presentations. The role will involve working with witnesses to produce facial composites (E-Fit), as well as specialist Injury, footwear, fingerprint photography and other investigative requirements.

The candidate will need to be highly organised and combine excellent technical skills with a methodical and meticulous working practice.

Much of the work is routine but photographing crime scenes, home office post mortems, road traffic accidents or photographing injured/deceased people at hospital can be emotionally distressing, and therefore it is essential the candidate can demonstrate the ability to show resilience and deal with distressing situations.

The candidate will need to demonstrate dedication, care and compassion as the role requires tact and discretion when dealing with distressed victims of crime (when conducting E-Fit interviews), working with pathologists at the mortuary photographing deceased and the ability to interact with a wide variety of professionals including but not limited to police officers, doctors, pathologists and court officials.
The candidate will need to have a thorough grasp of photographic principles, particularly those involving non-standard techniques, as well as an appreciation of the importance of their work.
