Communications and Marketing Officer - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 6 months

Contracting Authority: The Home Office

Location: Cambridge (2/3 days a week on site)

Due to the nature of this role you will need active Government SC clearance at time of application. Lapsed SC and CTC clearance will also be considered.

The first duty of Government is to protect the public. Since 1782, the Home Office has led work to keep the country safe from those who seek to do it harm; in doing so, we make a vital contribution to HM Government’s plan for a stronger, fairer, outward-looking and united Britain.

The Home Office covers three systems: Homeland Security, Public Safety and Borders, and Immigration and Citizenship. These systems work collaboratively to deliver our cross-cutting priorities, whilst providing increasingly efficient and secure services for the public. These are difficult areas that can rapidly change in the global environment we work in – this makes us one of the most exciting and stimulating government departments in which to work.

The Joint Security and Resilience Centre (JSaRC) is a unique team of Civil Servants and secondees from across the security sector, whose focus is on engaging and connecting the security industry with Government to provide security outcomes for keeping our citizens, infrastructure, borders and country safe. JSaRC is seeking a competent and experienced Marketing and Communications manager (contractor) to develop and manage a range of campaigns and communications in support of its busy programme of work within and aligned to, the planning and delivery of Security and Policing 2023. This will include delivery of high quality internal and external communications as well as to take the lead on one or more workstreams for the Security and Policing event (for which JSaRC is responsible for delivering on behalf of the Home Office).

As a Communications and Marketing Officer your main responsibilities would be:

  •  Management of JSaRC’s website using a simple content management system. This includes weekly updates, regular reviews of functionality and co-ordination of urgent support requirements and fixes via an internal technical support team. Development, co-ordination and delivery of a range of communications and marketing initiatives in support of JSaRC’s work programme. The work programme consists of 10-12 live initiatives at any time, these will be allocated across the marketing team based on skills, resources and expertise. Management of at least one workstream in support of the Security and Policing event, taking place in March 2023. Workstreams cover specialisms such as VIP and Ministerial engagement, conferences and events, marketing and PR, Government Zone and Immersive Features. Workstreams will be allocated on joining the team. For all allocated projects and work, the role holder will be required to create, maintain and report accurate records in relation to overall project statuses, including but not limited to budget, timelines, milestones, dependencies, risks and governance.

You’ll have relevant experience in:

  • Marketing and Communications experience from a large, fast moving organisation either in the public or private sector. Experience of using Content Management Systems (CMS) and Customer Relationship Management systems (CRM) is essential. Experience of developing and running marketing campaigns/engagement strategies. The ability to write copy to a high standard once given a brief. The ideal candidate will be a confident and concise communicator who is not afraid to engage with stakeholders up to and including Ministerial level.
