The contracted role is responsible for the following roles in support of the P&SS Senior Manager:

  • Technical Leadership on the refinement of company BowTies to the required maturity standard
  • Support and preparation of SRM inputs for the company Safety Action Groups and Safety Review Board
  • Provide Technical leadership and mentoring for the creation of Accountable Manager Advice Notes; risk analysis escalation papers
  • Working with the Chief Safety Investigator and Safety Reporting Lead to validate and refine safety trends and assurance information to produce validated risk metrics
  • Holding executive stakeholder reviews for risk escalations or risk register reviews
  • Lead and mentor the development of the SMS team in Hazard ID and BowTie XP facilitation skills
  • Provide investigation direct support and oversight where required to the Chief Safety Investigator on significant investigations.

This can be considered as a hybrid (virtual work) position and is inside IR35. The contract is for approximately 18 months.

Travel within the UK is expected and some overseas travel may be required

Essential Competencies:

  • Experience in working in an engineering, maintenance or air environment
  • Formal safety management training including risk management
  • Significant risk management experience in assessing and analyzing risks
  • BowTie XP facilitator with significant experience in creating and maintaining BowTies using BowTie XP advanced
  • Experience in facilitating effective Safety Action Groups and Safety Review Boards
  • Strong regulatory knowledge
  • Formal safety investigation training and experience
  • Relevant degree, or equivalent level of academic performance
  • The candidate should possess good communication skills with a proven record in interacting successfully across multi-discipline teams
  • The role will have significant UK MoD customer, supplier and wider interfaces and, therefore, a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is essential

Desirable competencies

  • Previous experience as an Airline or MoD Safety Manager or Risk Lead
  • Awareness of MoD safety requirements
  • Human Factors trainer or examiner / supervisor
