Technical Specialist Architect - Inside IR35
Contract Term: 6 Months
Contracting Authority: Cabinet Office    
Location: Remote/Hybrid - Reporting to one of The Cabinet Offices locations once per week


The Cabinet Office supports the Prime Minister and ensures the effective running of government. The Cabinet Office is also the corporate headquarters for the government, in partnership with HM Treasury, and takes the lead in certain critical policy areas. As a Technical Architect your main responsibilities would be: 

•    Produce Solutions Architecture designs, data patterns and pipelines and understand where to use different types of data models. 
•    Understand industry-recognised data-modelling patterns and standards.
•    Proactively horizon scan for new initiatives, tooling and technologies to aid the delivery of the service.
•    Communicate to and between technical and non-technical stakeholders as well as facilitate discussions within a multidisciplinary team, with potentially difficult dynamics.
•    Manage different perspectives.
•    Design build and test data products that are complex or large-scale. 
•    Build teams to provide data integration services. 
•    Manage data sharing in a secure and compliant manner, balancing the right levels of access against any sensitivities.
•    Managing, supporting and troubleshooting Analytical and Data Science Tools. 
•    Respond to problems in databases, data processes, data products and services as they occur. 
•    Initiate actions monitor services and identify trends to resolve problems. 
•    Determine the appropriate remedy and assist with implementation of it as well as preventative measures.

You’ll have relevant experience in:

•    Strong and demonstrable experience of having architected and designed for large-scale, shared and operational data platforms.
•    Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation and the suite of AWS technologies and data repositories and consumption, transformation and analytical tools.
•    Experience of working with AWS Cloud Data Engineering technologies.
•    Experience of working with modern software development techniques such as: DevOps; DataOps; continuous testing, development and integration; infrastructure as code; and agile practices.
•    Translate business requirements into viable designs and, ultimately, solutions that are fit for purpose and use. 
•    Demonstrable experience of working within an architecture community and leading architecture strategy / proposals for change.
•    Ability to liaise with stakeholders/customers and interpret business requirements into technical ones.
•    Excellent problem solving, research and analytical skills.
•    Excellent communication, leadership, influencing and negotiation skills with ability to lead technical customer workshops and pre-sales technical meetings.
•    Ability to deliver high- and low-level technical documents for project and customer deliverables.
•    Experience designing and implementing secure and scalable cloud platforms to support industry best-practice trends such as containerized workloads and microservice architectures.
•    Excellent grasp of cloud architecture solutions using one or more of major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and best practices including regulatory and security considerations.
•    Experience with the application development lifecycle and best practices involving source code management, application build, test and deployment.
•    Hands-on experience designing and building DevOps engineering tooling, CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation/orchestration processes (using Jenkins, Teamcity or other managed/self-hosted solutions).
•    Infrastructure-as-Code experience using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
•    Scripting/Configuration-as-Code experience such as Python, Ansible, Groovy, Bash and/or PowerShell.
•    Experience working with agile methodologies in software development life cycle projects.
•    A proactive approach to learning and keeping abreast with the latest developments in Cloud and DataOps.
•    Experience of a wide range of data engineering tools.
•    Experience data modelling, data cleansing, and data enrichment skills.
•    Professional credibility as a Cloud Data Architect.
