A highly motivated Assistant Project Manager is required to provide support to a project in the UK Submarine Support Business Stream of Mission Systems in Ashton, Bristol working under the line management of the Delivery Team Manager.

The difference the Assistant Project Manager will make
You will be responsible for providing support to a variety of weapons handling and launch systems equipment in accordance with the agreed budget and schedule. You will interface with the overall Integrated Delivery Team, supporting the Project Manager to provide accurate forecasts, cost to complete, milestone adherence and schedule updates as required. You will be responsible for delivering the customers' requirements to time and cost whilst ensuring all internal targets, including business growth, are met.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Delivery of the contract requirements in accordance with the agreed schedule on behalf of the Project Manager
  • Ensuring requisitions and purchase orders have been launched on-time to support successful delivery
  • Using IFS to implement the planned scope and monitor and control work effort, ensuring that procurement and repair activities are completed on time to support deliverables
  • Supporting delivery of project scope in accordance with HSE, quality and customer requirements
  • Supporting overall cost management by collation of accurate estimates, forecast to complete and strong monitoring and control of spend
  • Supporting the Project manager in the Identification, planning and control of risks and opportunities
  • Implementing the agreed governance arrangements for the delivery of the project
  • Supporting good communication across all functions in line with the project communication plan
  • Managing the Customer and Supplier interface to ensure timely delivery of the project scope and successful satisfaction of customer needs whilst maximising business value
  • Support to Business Winning activities including proposal development and evaluation and optimisation of the preferred solution
  • Reporting progress to the Integrated Delivery Team Leads on a weekly basis

Experience
  • Has worked in an Integrated Delivery Team supporting delivery of a product and/or services
  • Has good knowledge of project tools and techniques including Microsoft Project (MS), Risk Management tools, ERP Systems and financial and resource planning tools

Skills and attributes
  • Competent in the use of MS Office
  • Problem Solver

Education & Qualifications
  • Have (or is prepared to work towards) the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) [formerly known as APMP​]
