Job Details

A Cyber Security Specialist is required for a permanent role paying up to £59,064.98 per annum with British Transport Police (BTP) to be located in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff or Glasgow.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As Cyber Security Specialist with BTP you will hold responsibility for the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the Forces IT estate, offering cyber expertise across a wide range of work streams.

Key activities include:

  • Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover through proactive engagement and assurance to ensure our IT applications and platforms are safe and secure.
  • Provide Cyber Security advice for large projects, ensuring that security standards are considered and embedded with any technical business developments.
  • Educate and guide colleagues across the company and external suppliers, using a range of information security technologies and applying best practice to support the ongoing protection of digital assets and services from a growing list of cyber threats.
  • Provide cyber input to a wide range of projects, ensuring that our cyber standards are embedded and understood.
Key requirements include:

  • Recognised industry qualification (desirable)
  • Experience of responding to cyber events, investigating incidents, performing forensic analysis and undertaking eDiscovery
  • Solid understanding of networks, encryption, security policy and access controls
  • Demonstrable experience of security concepts in relation to IAM, Active Directory, Group Policies, device provisioning
  • Experience of managing third party cyber security providers
  • Fluency in welsh language, written and verbal is desirable if located in Wales

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised. The earliest this will be is October 2022.
