AWE's Nuclear Threat Reduction (NTR) Division is currently recruiting for several Computational Scientists to join a small research and development team.

Location - Reading area

Package - £33,000 - c£60,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

What will you be required to do?

The hiring manager is willing to consider applications from individuals at different stages of their career.

You'll be part of a small new team who are undergoing rapid expansion to develop and implement new software to meet emerging customer needs for the Nuclear Threat Reduction business area, this makes for a rapid pace of technology development across a broad range of scientific problems.

This is a multi-disciplined role where you will be expected to leverage from latest research and apply against customer requirements to develop, test and validate unique codes for implementation with High Performance Computing (HPC) platforms.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Research, investigation and production of techniques and solutions to complex scientific problems

  • Development, Design, Testing and Qualification of software.

  • Production of suitable technical documentation

We would love to hear from highly motivated people with a passion for problem solving.

Whilst not considered a check list, we are interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate some of the following:

  • A Degree, equivalent NQF level 6 qualification or equivalent experience in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or other numerate discipline

  • Methodical approach to problem solving with strong abilities to draw together and interpret data from a variety of sources in order to reach a conclusion

  • Familiarity with numerical methods and their implementation

  • Working experience of programming, with ability to learn high level language programs

  • Experience of working in Unix/Linux environment

  • Ability to integrate and work well in a team and support the technical focal point in projects

  • Ability to research and self-learn new physics areas and code development practices

  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised with appropriate support from the team where required

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
