ABOUT ERSOU

ERSOU celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone is valued and respected. We actively encourage applications from underrepresented or minority groups. ERSOU is a Disability Confident employer. Should you require any reasonable adjustments for your application process, please contact the HR Service Centre on 01438 757777. We also recognise the guaranteed interview scheme; this means that all candidates with a disability covered by the Equality Act 2010, who meet the minimum entry requirements for the role, will be invited to attend an interview. Where possible we will also consider flexible working requests.

Prepare is part of the National CONTEST Strategy and sits under the remit of ‘Protect and Prepare’ within the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit for Counter Terrorism Policing. The Learning and Development team also work under the remit of ‘Protect and Prepare’ and provide the most relevant training and continual personal development opportunities to all CT staff and officers.

This role will be split between supporting the both the ERSOU Prepare Team and the Learning & Development Team.

The CT Prepare Team is a small but dedicated team whose focus is to prepare for terrorist attacks and reduce their impact for the whole of the Eastern Region. This support role is the first to be open to Police Staff from anywhere within Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, or Hertfordshire.

If the worst happens, we want to be suitably prepared to allow us to respond as quickly and efficiently as possible to a terrorist attack. To help us prepare for terrorist incidents, we regularly test our methods by holding exercises, testing CT plans across the region and by training our staff to deal with such situations as quickly and efficiently as possible. This role will be equally split between supporting the Learning and Development team whilst they facilitate training and supporting the Prepare team whilst they facilitate testing and exercising, debriefing and assurance work around Counter Terrorism Plans and resilience strategies.

Prepare carry out their work in partnership with other P’s of the CONTEST Strategy, emergency services, local and national government departments and the military. This helps us understand the way each organisation works so we can come together for a major incident and act as one.

The Prepare team also maintain a debriefing functionality to assist with learning from testing, exercising, real-life incidents and investigations which facilitates risk management in the future. They also play their part within the National Prepare portfolio sharing knowledge and learning whilst assisting with bigger regional and national exercises. The successful candidate will play a supporting role within these functions.

This is a varied and stimulating role which requires the successful candidate to be a focused and motivated. Good communication skills and experience of managing a busy workload are essential.

This is an agile role, as per ERSOU guidance, and the successful candidate will be required to attend and support meetings, and testing and exercises events across the Eastern Region and on occasions nationally. Although standard working hours are 0800-1600 Monday to Friday (no shifts) a flexible approach is required to support out of hours events including exercises and live incidents.

They will be required to assist in the smooth running of the departments by performing a range of duties including some administrative and some of a complex nature. Although not essential it is desirable for the successful candidate to have a working knowledge of Counter Terrorism Policing and an understanding of the UK CONTEST strategy.

VETTING

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria), Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) and Development Vetting before taking up the post. This will involve vetting checks on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial enquiries. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. Anyone holding dual nationality can make an application but may be required to relinquish non-British nationality if successful (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with CTP. When applying please click Yes to the British Nationality Question in order to progress to the next step of the application process. One of your parents should also be British or have substantial ties to the UK. In the latter instance, substantial ties means that your parent is a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, a Commonwealth citizen, US citizen, EEA citizen, British national or citizen overseas, and they would need to have demonstrable connections with the UK by way of family history or have been resident here for a substantial period of time.

If you’re already married to, or cohabiting with, a person who isn’t a British citizen, you may still be eligible for employment at the discretion of the department. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, taking into account the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom.
