Are you a person who wants to inspire and develop young people along with developing your own skills? GMP Police Cadets are seeking volunteer cadet leaders to help young people aged 13-17 years across the force.

Leaders are encouraged to help Cadets learn about the Police force, law, specialist police departments, drill and inspections through a structured programme that aims to enhance the relationship between the public and the police (a policing background is not required) in line with the force Target Operating Model.

Leaders will also support community engagement events and neighbourhood policing initiatives. Cadets will be provided with the necessary training and skills required.

We are looking for people from our communities who want to make a difference by becoming a Volunteer Police Cadet Leader.

The Citizens in Policing programme enables the Force to strengthen existing relationships with the communities of Greater Manchester, and seeks to provide opportunities for community involvement in Policing, Increasing Community involvement and feelings of Civic Responsibility.

The aim and objectives of the VPC Scheme is to increase confidence, wellbeing and enhance life skills.

Aim of Role: To support delivery of the forces Volunteer Police Cadet Scheme

Activities/Tasks:

• Undertake administrative tasks such as inputting data and producing reports
• Coordinate Cadets and take registration at Cadet Classes
• Coordinate guest speakers and presenters
• Coordinate internal and external Unit activities.
• Give regular and effective support to Cadet Units
• Ensuring Safeguarding and Risk Assessment guidelines are adhered to
• Ensure VPC Portal up to date/accurate
• Work closely in partnership with GMP's Central Team for consistent
recruitment and retention of volunteer VPC Leaders and maintenance of
VPC Guidance and processes
• Plan, coordinate and attend fundraising and social action
• events in the community
• Ensure that social media & media communications, reporting
• and monitoring are done through the correct channels
• Deliver presentations/inputs to Volunteer Police Cadets
• Support Cadets in completing the Duke of Edinburgh qualifications
• Maintain the welfare of any Cadets within the VPC Unit

Role Specific Skills:

• Excellent communication skills, particularly verbal.
• Good planning and organisational skills with experience of keeping manual
and computerised records and inputting/retrieving information
• IT Skills, including Microsoft packages and internet
• To be enthusiastic and motivated
• Ability to work within a team, promoting inclusivity at all times
• Ability to engage with people from all religious and cultural backgrounds
• Ability to monitor Cadet and Volunteers welfare and to support
development
• Demonstrate previous experience in delivering presentations/training
• Previous experience with working/volunteering with young
persons is desirable

PLEASE NOTE: You will need to evidence the specific skills above on your CV as this will be taken into account at the shortlisting stage.

Preferred Commitment: We would ask you to attend the two one-hour weekly evening sessions and to offer 4 hours per month of your time for administration tasks/ event organising and/or attending. There is a need for reliability and flexibility in this voluntary role, including evening and occasional weekend volunteering.
