Network Transition Manager (Security Cleared)- Outside IR35

Contract Term: 6 Months

Contracting Authority: FCDO

Location: Remote/London

The Transition Deployment Manager is part of a team responsible for undertaking the management and deployment of a new Wide Area Network (WAN) solution covering 550 offices in 170 countries for the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office and the British Council. One of the key aspects of the role is working and managing a wide variety of Suppliers to ensure a seamless transition at each site around the world. The role reports to the ECHO 2 Deployment Lead.

As a Network Transition Manager your main responsibilities would be: 

  • Development of Ensure solutions are relevant whilst minimising business impact and provide the Client with cost effective and sustainable solutions.
  • Validate and assure Supplier produced project plans to ensure they are commensurate with project plans and objectives of the Programme.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the Programme plan as directed by the ECHO 2 Deployment Lead.
  • Effectively manage multiple stakeholders inside and outside the programme to ensure Suppliers adhere to service implementation and service delivery governance and best practice.
  • Ensure all services delivered are capable of acceptance into live service and that transition risks are clearly understood with suitable mitigations are in place where required.
  • Manage implementations effectively and assist with the creation of detailed cutover plans.
  • Participate in cross functional workshops as required.
  • Assist the ECHO 2 Deployment Lead in keeping track of inflight and proposed projects that impact the transition activities of the Programme.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the wider Programme team.
  • Assist the Test Manager to ensure transition related test quality gates have been passed.
  • Work collaboratively with the Client Partner Teams and Suppliers to ensure environmental remediation requirements are identified and resolved prior to the deployment of the new ECHO 2 2 solution(s).
  • Assist with the creation and sign off of the Site lifecycle Implementation Plan detailing all task level activities and timings required to enable a successful implementation at each site.
  • Actively take part in identifying how Customer Responsibility tasks can be undertaken in the event of a skills gap being identified (e.g. local site equipment installations, per site UAT requirements, attendance at implementation ‘bridge calls’).   
  • Attendance at regular meetings with Suppliers and Customer representatives throughout the lifecycle of the ECHO 2 implementation. Specifically, the ECHO Transition and Deployment Working Group and regular meeting with Suppliers, Customers and other ECHO 2 workstreams.
  • Attend regular meetings with British Council transition colleagues to ensure alignment with ECHO 2 core transition team activities
  • Provision of advice and guidance to local site technical resources to assist with the completion of implementations
  • Provide inputs to management and local reporting requirements that track progress against tasks in the detailed in implementation plans/trackers
  • Undertake overarching responsibility for ‘groups’ of site implementations as directed by the ECHO 2 Deployment Lead

 

 Essential Criteria: 

  • Current Valid SC clearance and British National.
  • Experience of transitioning large and complex IT projects in UK public sector with specific skills in undertaking network deployment activities.
  • The role holder is expected to act with minimum supervision and to deliver to schedule whilst balancing multiple priorities. Support will be provided as required and requested. The role holder is expected to be self-driven and motivated.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office suite skills including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS-Project and Visio
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Exposure to a variety of project management and delivery methodologies and techniques, both Waterfall and Agile.
  • Good knowledge of ITSM frameworks, methods and standards.
  • Familiarity with IT networks (WAN, Wi-Fi, Internet, firewalls, routers) advantageous.
  • Management of network refreshes/upgrades advantageous.
  • Ability to work with multiple suppliers and provide guidance as required.
  • Knowledge of established and emerging SD-WAN technologies an advantage
