The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a central government department with a mission to protect our country and provide the ultimate guarantee of its security and independence, as well as helping to protect its values and interests abroad.

Northwood is home to the Ministry of Defence’s Strategic Command. The Private Finance Initiative (PFI) Facilities Manager reports to the Contract Management Team Leader (CMT TL) to act as the liaison between the PFI Contractor, service delivery provider with the authority to maintain MOD outputs on aspects of Facilities Management. This role is in a high-profile environment where the ability to work with and support senior staff is key, both in the delivery of your role and as a visible ambassador for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO). You will deputise for the Team leader, representing CMT at meetings with senior stakeholders across the site and within the DIO environment.

As a Facilities Manager your main responsibilities would be:

  • Act as the lead and focal point for the Hotel Services and the Motoring Transport Contract
  • Work with customers and act on their feedback to help drive improvement in performance and contribute to driving efficiency and value.
  • Be able to work as part of a team, across functional boundaries to deliver a high-quality service to our customers.
  • Seek opportunities to drive value to the MOD through developing collaborative relationships, whilst recognising (and supporting where possible) the objectives of the private sector.
  • Act as Deputy for CMT TL when necessary, representing DIO at senior meetings with the Authority
  • Work with the CMT TL to ensure that all facilities are compliant with mandatory and reporting requirements.
  • Lead on Departmental business, including Ministerial correspondence, media enquiries, Parliamentary Questions and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
  • Ensure strong and collaborative relationships are developed with our customers from HQ.
  • Act as intelligent client and Authority representative for Infrastructure Projects at Northwood Headquarters in line with DIO’s vision.
  • Monitoring Hotel Services, Office Workspace, Recreational/Amenity Space and Conference Space
  • Establish and maintain a monitoring process for the above areas to ensure that it supports and complements the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and payment mechanism.
  • On completion of all contract monitoring, provide written reports to the PFI Contractor and CMT Team Leader.
  • Ensure that all non-compliant areas and incidents are recorded and where applicable, that a clear date for completion/compliance is set.
  • To authorise monthly the Unit’s catering and crown accounts to ensure the contract caterer is compliant with Authority Regulations
  • Attend the Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Junior Ranks committee meetings when requested to advise on contract issues.
  • Be the sole contact for information on Motor Transport issues and liaise with the Mechanical Transport (MT) Contractor
  • Ensure that the Mechanical Transport Contractor complies with current Authority transport regulations and the Northwood PFI Statement of Requirement
  • Develop and build strong collaborative relationships with our partners in accordance with ISO44001 principles.

You’ll have relevant experience in

  • SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role
  • Ability to lead and conduct onsite assurance activity
  • Developed and built strong collaborative relationships
  • Developed and delivered robust improvement plans of infrastructure work
  • Facilities Management experience
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Asset Management

Desirable experiences:

  • Degree in Facilities management
  • Previous experience within MOD
  • NEBOSH certificate
  • IBOSH certificate
