Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Radar Maintenance Supervisor to join our existing team at our Pickering site based at RAF Fylingdales on the North Yorkshire Moors.
This role will lead the maintenance team that acts as the radar and facility equipment engineering focal point providing engineering reports and evaluations, determine engineering best practise, maintain 5S strategy and provide advice on engineering policy.

Our Radar Supervisor will oversee the technical details of all planned and corrective maintenance and advise on maintenance procedures in accordance with current Work Instructions, Health and Safety regulations and engineering legislation.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Motivation and organisation of a small team to progress repairs of all radar, computer & facilities equipment.
  • Having the ability to interpret printed results of online operational assessment tests and offline diagnostics.
  • Providing support to the shift teams as and when required.
  • Supervise maintenance teams.
  • Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Prioritise reactive against planned maintenance.
  • Control Day Maintenance Technicians applications for leave, and process My Catch Up reports, monitoring personal development and career aspirations.
  • Provide maintenance progress reports.
  • Update and administer the maintenance control computer system when required.
  • Lead maintenance review meetings when required.
  • Stand in for the Planning Engineers as requested.
  • Conducts engineering studies into all aspects of technical equipment and hardware associated with the solid-state phased array radar. Produces a report as directed by the client on the specified equipment with recommendations and costings for corrections, improvements and additions.
  • Conducts engineering investigations to proposed changes in engineering policy, procedures and configuration of equipment associated with the solid state phased array radar. Provides recommendations and advice as requested on engineering policy, procedures and equipment configurations and evaluates the impact on any such changes.
  • Liaises with Planning Engineers to plan all changes associated with equipment modifications, arrange for down time if required and ensures that there is no conflict with other activities. Liaises with shift staff and arranges for equipment isolation and permits to work if necessary. Supervises and controls the installation and modifications and ensures compliance with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and site regulations.
  • Monitors and oversees all aspects of planned and corrective maintenance, intervenes and take whatever action necessary to ensure that effective maintenance procedures are implemented. Organises and maintains the computer based planned maintenance scheduling and reporting system.
  • Provide radar training to all newly recruited company staff, newly posted RAF personnel and existing staff requiring additional training. Prepare and maintain course notes and documentation, and deliver Tool Box Talks on a variety of Safety and Engineering subjects.
  • Act as the COSHH assessor and POC for all COSHH safety


What you'll need to do the role:

  • Experience of Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, E-mail and familiarity with the MAXIMO maintenance database and scheduling software.
  • Qualified to HNC level or equivalent in a suitable technical discipline coupled with related experience.
  • Having a thorough understanding of the concept and operation of the SSPAR radar subsystem.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance
