Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Composites Development Engineer to join our team based in Loughborough. In this role, you will be w orking within the Materials Research and Development Team, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will be the composites, subject matter expert. The Materials Research and Development Team is responsible for developing differentiated technologies, which will keep Meggitt ahead of its competitors. It also provides expert materials support to manufacturing and operations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and support composites research and development projects across the three UK composite sites; Loughborough, Shepshed and Stevenage.
  • Offer ideas and suggestions for new materials and processing research and development projects.
  • Provide technical support to the Business Development team.
  • Assist Strategic Purchasing with finding alternative materials.
  • Attend internal and external technical review meetings, providing design and manufacturing input.
  • Support Operations and Quality teams to resolve issues, obsolescences and qualifications.
  • Represent Meggitt on the National Composites Centre's Research and Operations Committee.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Background in Manufacturing technologies: Prepreg, Out of autoclave, Resin transfer moulding & Resin infusion is essential.
  • 5 years of experience in Design for manufacturers in Aerospace, Motorsport or Automotive is required.
  • Materials Engineering degree/Engineering degree with MSc in Materials/Apprenticeship with relevant experience in Materials is highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of automated processes: Pick and place, Additive manufacture & Sustainability & re-cycling would be an advantage.
  • Able to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to research and analyse data effectively.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task.
  • Able to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web browsers.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of PC software applications and strong understanding of PC operating systems.
  • Able to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines.
