Job Details

Police Officers rely on a wide range of people to help them do their job, and you can be one of them. Vacancies are currently available across the county for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). Within this role you will be giving vital support to officers of Hertfordshire Constabulary; but more than that you will be helping to reassure the public as you will be providing a uniformed presence within the community.

You must be an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills as well as having the ability to solve problems, whilst thinking on your feet. You must also have the desire to make a difference to people's lives. We will work with you to maximise these skills (and others) to the utmost potential so you can work to maintain the highest possible levels of public safety. You will need a current full UK manual driving licence and must have had experience of working in a public facing role.

We are currently looking to fill vacancies across Hertfordshire.

If successful following the selection process your working location will be confirmed once you start your training with us.

The role of a PCSO may require you to work from different locations other than your base/home station, this would usually be at neighbouring stations, however due to an exigency of duty there may be a requirement to work at other stations throughout the county.

Hours of work: the Police Community Support Officer role involves working a rotating shift pattern to cover a 37-hour week, including working some weekends and evenings to 23:00, although Hertfordshire Constabulary is supportive of part time working for the role of PCSO.

Overview of the Selection Process: You should complete the online application to apply for the role of PCSO. If you are successful following shortlisting you will then be invited to take part in a telephone interview. If successful at the telephone interview then you will be invited to attend an assessment centre.

If successful following the assessment centre you will have to undergo a number of pre-employment checks including vetting, medical screening and references. Successful candidates will also be required to pass a fitness test as they are expected to be on active patrol (on foot or bicycle) for their shift of eight hours.

Start dates are dependent on a number of factors including all pre-employment checks being completed satisfactorily. Please note that we are looking to fill intakes over the next year, so you may not be offered a start date straight away once you have passed the recruitment process.

For more information on the role of a PCSO please visit our website www.hertspolicepcso.co.uk and read through the role profile attached.

Please note if you applied for this role within the past six months and were unsuccessful, you will be unable to reapply at this point.

Your application may be shortlisted prior to the closing date.
