Engineering Manager - Marine Systems

Belcan are hiring on a Permanent basis for an Engineering Manager to join our Marine team in Derby.

Candidates must be from a Marine background in Engineering Management.

The role will be to support the development of the Derby Marine Office & work with the Nevis management team in delivering programmes of work.

The role has a strong focus on engineering delivery and quality, providing a focal for technical governance and support to the team.

Amongst other things you will be responsible for ensuring all levels of Quality, Cost Control & Schedule Delivery are robustly tracked & reported on a weekly basis.

Principle Responsibilities:

Customer

Supporting new & current clients through interaction with Engineering Director and Programme DirectorDelivery

Supporting team leaders & individualsP&L

Ensure consistency of remuneration across teamsEnsure best practice is applied on quotations i.e. appropriate levels, governance, licence costs & location of delivery is considered to optimise profitabilityPrepare and approve customer quotationsManage billability & overspendIdentify & implement cost savings (internal & customer)Approval of hires for function - authorised to approve within set limitsResource/Capability

Resource planning & deployment on customer accountsEnsure appropriate skills mix across the functional teamsPerform PDRsDelivery enablement - interface with stakeholders on HR, Security, IT, Facilities etc.Offshore

Support development of off-shore teamsRequired Qualifications and Experience:

Ideally be degree qualified. However other qualifications and experience will be considered.Must have marine engineering and/ or a defence related industry experience. Must be experienced in both submarine spatial modelling and in the production and checking of marine output drawings of various disciplines, principally Layouts.Must be highly proficient in the use of the appropriate tools and techniques that will be used by the team (e.g. Windchill, TeamCentre, Foran, etc…).Have a thorough awareness of Submarines rules and specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out detail design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained by his or her team.Must be a highly capable communicator both written and spoken.Must be an excellent team player with a tenacious and resilient attitude to drive the interface with the customer and the various engineering and support functions of the business.Must have experience in project co-ordination and /or management in a challenging delivery environment.Must be a competent user of MS Excel. Ability in the use of MS Project is highly desirable but not mandatory.Provide technical support and troubleshooting responses in assigned areas to operational units or other activities.Appreciates and can articulate the value of the engineering lifecycle and the relationship to the Lifecycle Management Process. Support and participate in technical reviews to ensure product viability.Understand the importance of H&S requirements and can articulate the need to ensure that the product is acceptably safe and that product and system safety assessments form part of the design process. Must have an understanding of regulatory and statutory requirements of the product.

Appreciates the need for a supportability engineering process to sustain the long term viability of the business. Understands that supportability goes beyond basic design, maintenance and operability requirements.
