An exciting opportunity exists for an Electrical / Mechanical Engineering Technician to join us in Babcock Mission Systems at our Skelton offices based near Penrith, Cumbria. The difference our Engineering Technician will make
You will independently provide engineering and technical support to projects across a wide range of equipment. Your main responsibilities will include:
• Undertaking and providing mechanical and electrical engineering support for Skelton activities, working within engineering best practices
• Carrying out all electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and limited electronic maintenance of station equipment in accordance with scheduled requirements and conforming to current policy.
• Maintaining technical and administrative records and provide information as required.
• Carrying out the supervision of electrical and mechanical installation work either by team members or sub-contractors.
• Monitoring and investigating equipment / component failures and where necessary make recommendations to improve the reliability or maintainability of the equipment or component.
• Installing, inspecting, testing, specifying and if necessary designing, electrical installations in accordance with the IEE Wiring Regulations.
• Manufacturing mechanical components from patterns or drawings.
• Development and promotion of continual improvements in the Safety, Health & Environmental culture
• Encouraging diversity of thought and promoting an inclusive working environment

Who we're looking for
You will be a driven and experienced electrical or mechanical engineer who is capable of working within a small but highly effective team where the highest of standards are expected from both a technical and behavioural perspective.

Experience
You will have proven experience in a similar role. If you have experience in only one discipline (either electrical or mechanical), you should be capable and committed to training in the alternative discipline.

Key skills and attributes
• A broad skill base in either (or both) electrical and mechanical engineering
• Can work collaboratively and build strong and influential relationships with key team members and sub-contractors to deliver our objectives
• Is a self-starter, who is performance driven - with a desire to make significant contribution/impact.
• Is a critical thinker - who can understand complex issues (balancing the detail and the big picture), using insight/data (evidence) and their judgement to make good decisions
• Has good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Education and Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in either mechanical or electrical engineering disciplines
• Recognised qualification in the operation of workshop machines
• Working at Height Qualification
