A Intelligence Researcher is required for a permanent role paying £24,490.39 per annum, plus 20% shift allowance per annum, with British Transport Police (BTP) based in Glasgow.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As Intelligence Researcher with BTP you will undertake research using a wide variety of sources to assess and evaluate information and inform the creation of intelligence products. Your research will help support decision making at a strategic, tactical and/or operational level and the successful applicant will be responsible for all intelligence report evaluations ensuring these remain compliant with legislation.

As Intelligence Researcher you will be required to:

  • Evaluate, sanitise and validate all intelligence reports received by BTP and create nominal records and other required entities, applying the current nationally approved system within 72 hours on receipt or as determined by ACPO, in line with the defined processed within MPOI and NIM.
  • Disseminate intelligence and work with other Forces relevant BTP departments where appropriate.
  • Undertake qualitative and quantitative research to produce and/or inform analytical products including collecting, collating and evaluating information from a wide variety of sources at a strategic, tactical or operational level.
  • Prepare and deliver research summaries and findings such as presentations and reports to clearly and accurately inform decision making and/or facilitate analysis.
  • Support the identification and development of new sources and methods of research to ensure that intelligence products reflect latest methodologies and best practice.

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualification or work experience.
  • Experience of communicating effectively and of undertaking research of a qualitative and quantitative nature.
  • Ability to research and assimilate large volumes of data and prepare and produce complex research-based reports. Understanding of relevant legislation and policies appropriate to the role and their use.

The successful candidate will be required to work a 24/7 shift roster. The role will include a training period which may involve travel to areas outside of Glasgow. Due to the COVID situation it may be necessary for the successful candidate to work from home.

Candidates internal to BTP must confirm that they are not subject to formal action plans for sickness/complaints/discipline or poor performance, that all mandatory training courses have been attended and are in ticket/up to date, that a 'developing' rating, or above, was achieved on the last reporting year PDR and they have completed their tenure period (6 months) for current substantive posting.

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised. The earliest this will be is March 2022.
