This is a fully supported role, offering an opportunity for candidates to learn and work in the field of pipe fitting operations. This will involve a hands-on and classroom approach to learning for the development of the necessary skill set required to become a Certified Construction Pipefitter. This role will involve working with different materials such as carbon, stainless and duplex steels in the development of piping spools to tight tolerances.
This apprenticeship is in accordance with national standards and fully recognised by industry.

In your role as a Pipefitter Apprentice, you will:
  • Engage with a structured learning and development plan.
  • Maintain a portal based personal learning portfolio.
  • Work towards attainment of Engineering Technician (EngTech) status.
  • Comply with the relevant health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Profile and shape pipes and components using handheld power tools, mechanical cutting machines and associated tooling.
  • Prepare and fit piping systems according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare, assemble and connect piping systems, including bolted clamps, flanges and threaded pipes.
  • Work as part of a team with pipe fitters and other associated trades.
  • Undergo specific training according to nuclear industry requirements.
  • Display values and behaviours meeting the expectations of Cavendish Nuclear Ltd.

The expected start date for this role is SEPTEMBER 2022

As part of a 36-42 month structured apprenticeship programme during your first year, you will attend college on a full time basis. The delivery model may be residential or day attendance. This will be confirmed well in advance of your start date. Residential costs would be covered by the company.
You will be trained in aspects of the specific discipline and other surrounding areas such as health and safety, statutory requirements, minimising risks on site, permits-to-work, accident and first aid, and manual handling techniques. You will also undergo training in relation to working in potentially hazardous environments.
From the 2nd to the final year of your apprenticeship, you will gain further experience in the processes and techniques, although this time it will be in the setting of an engineering construction site.

Knowledge / Understanding
An appreciation of general engineering, however no expert knowledge is required

Demonstrate the qualities of a team player

Qualifications specific to role
At least five GCSEs with grades 3(E) and above including Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 English & Maths)

Assessment
Candidates to attend an assessment day at Bridgwater & Taunton College.
