About the role

Cavendish Nuclear is seeking a Physicist to join our world-class team on the Sellafield site in Cumbria, England. The role presents exciting opportunities to work on major, complex decommissioning programmes through the development and application of advanced techniques and equipment. You will become part of a team with unrivalled expertise in Radiometric Characterisation and Nuclear Material Assay that is focussed on providing innovative solutions for our customers across the full nuclear lifecycle. We achieve this through novel application of a wide range of technologies such as Gamma Imaging; High, Medium and Low Resolution Gamma Spectrometry; and Fast and Thermal Neutron Counting.

The successful candidate will fit into our dynamic team by bringing their own relevant knowledge and experience whilst being committed to continuous technical and personal development. They will also embrace opportunities to develop customer relationships, collaborate with partners and deliver our services locally in Cumbria and further afield throughout the UK and internationally.

A personal development plan will be provided which will be underpinned by expert mentorship across a diverse range of projects to accelerate your learning, knowledge and experience.

You will be given the opportunity to take part in all aspects of the project lifecycle from requirement development, design, build, commissioning, deployment, expert review and reporting. Over time you will take the lead on projects within your areas of expertise. Your work will provide significant evidence to support and maintain Professional Chartership.

Sellafield is the largest nuclear site in Europe with a complex array of facilities associated with the UK's nuclear legacy. Role requirements

We are looking for someone with a Bachelor's degree in Physics and some radiometric or nuclear industry experience OR; a Bachelor's degree in Physics and a PhD in a radiometric or nuclear related subject.

Radiometric experience is highly desirable.

What else do I need to know?

Regular attendance at the Sellafield Site will be required for tasks such as; development of instrumentation, calibration and maintenance of our specialist equipment, the deployment of such equipment onto site and face-to-face meetings with customers. With this in mind, living close to site is advantageous; however, we do offer flexible working from home when site attendance is not required.

The role is a full time permanent position comprising of a 37-hour working week with flexible start and finish time. The successful candidate is expected to travel to other sites occasionally on request and must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for the role.
