We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and commercially minded Solution Architect in the Telecommunications environment to join our Communication Systems and Critical Assets team as part of Babcock Mission Systems.

Mission Systems is transforming and we need you to support our drive for growth beyond our current managed services and projects. You will both collaborate and lead the design processes through exciting, and challenging cutting edge projects. You will contribute, playing a key role in growing our tactical communications capability.

You could be supporting our portfolio of existing telecommunication projects, or you could find yourself supporting the development of new technologies through business winning activities or new contracts.

Our current capabilities span a broad spectrum of market areas from Defence Land, Air and Naval through to small commercial deployments. You will help raise Babcock's technical profile whilst building strong vendor and customer relationships, implementing our ambitious strategy.
Reporting to the Communication Systems and Critical Assets Chief Engineer and be the Principal Systems Engineer for new telecommunications opportunities as designated and technical the lead for Land Environment Tactical Communications and Information System (LE TacCIS) bids through PQQ and ITT/ITN.

Working with the Capture Manager, Bid Manager, and Programme Manager, you will run the engineering element of the LE TacCIS bids, which includes:
• Owning the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and all engineering deliverables.
• Be accountable for all plans that are subordinate to the SEMP (e.g., Integration, Test, and Acceptance Management Plan (ITAMP)
• Owning Babcock elements of the Technical Volume of the LE TacCIS SI bid.
• Owning the engineering team's transition from the bid phase into the delivery phase.
• Run the LE TacCIS SI engineering team, being accountable for all engineering deliverables throughout the period of performance of the contract Undertake Systems Engineering Governance and planning across all LE TacCIS programme life cycle stages, including system requirements, concept studies, architecture, design, integration, verification, validation, transition into service, operation, maintenance, and disposal Provide oversight of all speciality engineering activities (Sy, Safety, HSI, ILS, Training, E3)
• Performing senior technical customer relationship management and perform inter-project technical relationship management with BATCIS and other customers as required.
• Develop solutions for demonstration and trial networks within portfolio of designated responsibility projects
• Create manage and maintain relationships with vendors and customers
• Stay current with COTS and MOTS networking technologies
• IP Networking, IP Secure Networking
• Deployment of tactical telecommunication networks consisting of multiple bearers e.g. RF and WAN technologies
• Design, Document, Present, Build, Support designs and solutions
• Liaise and Collaborate with peer individuals and organisations across Babcock
• Support BD/Marketing and Capture with Technical Expertise and Knowledge.
• Producing Networking requirements and architecture definition, analysis of Networking systems and sub systems, scenario definition, and conduct, results analysis, adjustment and validation.
• Apply best placed systems engineering practices and methods to develop systems that fully meet contractual requirements.
• Undertake the specification, design, implementation, test and integration in line with required standards.
• The execution of analysis activities, including requirements gathering, systems design, build, set up and configuration, testing, acceptance, and other associated practises.
• Capturing customer requirements, and in the absence of clearly defined specifications be able to understand the customer's underlying goals in order propose requirements.
• Interface with the system design and software design team and the systems IVVQ to traceable validation of network and overall system requirements.
• Design, Document, Present, Build, Support and assist the delivery of solutions.
• Be a technical mentor to junior engineers.

Who we're looking for

You will have a deep understanding of UK MOD customer, especially DE&S and Defence Digital. A working knowledge of defence or commercial telecommunication systems will be a real advantage.
You will also need a deep understanding of the industrial supply chain within the Land Tactical Communications and Information Systems marketplace, along with the technical engineering solutions and value-propositions they may offer.

Experience

You will have considerable, relevant Systems Engineering experience, with proven success in both project delivery and bid wins in Defence market place.
• Strong understanding of requirements management and requirements decomposition
• Experience of Systems Engineering management for large multi-disciplinary Systems Engineering teams
• Experience in designing systems engineering governance regimes and kept them in line with industry best practice.
• Experience of geographically dispersed telecommunication networks.
• Deep knowledge of IP Technologies and Infrastructures
• Knowledge of RF systems
• Experienced in system defect analysis, recreation, and test and trouble-shooting.
• Comfortable with Military systems, environments, communities and ethos
• Technical Management, Planning, Leaderships and Mentoring
• IP Network Design of demonstrations and operational deployments.
• System design, installation, maintenance and commissioning of IP networks
• Expertise in system debugging and fault finding
• Production of technical reports and engineering documentation
• Strong understanding of Systems Engineering, Integration, Testing, Acceptance V-Model, ITEAP, VVRM etc.
• Experienced in customer and Vendor collaboration.
• Knowledge of IP routing and switching to CCNA level or above or practical experience
• Experienced in Platform Integration
• Supporting Proto-type systems and environments
• Experience of Software development environments process and support
• Military land and marine communications experience

Education and qualifications

• MSc/ BSc in, Engineering, Telecommunications, Cyber Security, IP Networking or Equivalent Practical Experience
• Considerable time served in a similar telecomms solutions role.
• CEng status desirable but not essential
