Starting salary from £19,737.00 per annum, pro rata, plus enhancements for working weekends and bank holidays. Overtime is also offered.

Various Shift Patterns Available:

  • Full time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Part time (16 hours per week) 4 on 4 off shift pattern


Here at Serco we're looking for a Security Officer to join us at Great Western Hospital, Swindon. Reporting into the Security Manager, you will help and support all patients, visitors and staff both routinely and when faced with difficult and distressful situations. This includes providing assistance when staff are faced with violent or abusive patients, visitors or members of the public through undertaking verbal defence and influence and if necessary, control and restraint in a professional and legal manner. It is important to have prior knowledge of knowing how and when to use, 'Use of Force'/Control and Restraint techniques in a professional way remaining within the boundaries of the law. Daily reports of incidents or accidents must be completed.

You will be expected to assist with complex needs like mental health, Dementia, Alzheimer's, Autism and Asperger's, Drug and alcohol dependency, Child and Vulnerable adult safeguarding and legal matters regarding Mental Capacity and Mental Health Act Sections.

The Security Officer will patrol the site both internally and externally and activate or de-activate alarms when needed and wear issued P.P.E body armour, due to increased knife presence and threats.

As part of your role, you will deal with Operation of Body Worn Cameras, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in accordance with operational instructions, SIA Legislation and approved code of practise. (PACE) Providing footage of incidents to required authorities when requested. You will also use IT software in relation to security and access control operations etc.

This is an incredibly important role within the Hospital as you are ensuring that patients, staff and visitors feel and are kept safe at all times. You must contribute in a team approach with the police on investigations of thefts, criminal acts or bomb threats, attend court to assist authorities in legal cases and ensure fire safety checks are maintained in accordance with the fire safety policy.

What you'll need to do the role
You will be able to demonstrate previous Security experience, preferably within a large corporate or Hospital setting. It is essential to have a valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence, as well as an SIA Security CCTV License. Control and restraint techniques are also important for this role.
