Job Details

The role of the Benefits Manager is to proactively identify, quantify, and track the realisation of benefits used to justify investment in the project. The Benefits Manager ensures that a ‘fit for purpose’ approach to benefits measurement and realisation is used to provide assurance that the benefits identified can be achieved. You will work closely with the Programme Manager, RN Portfolio Team, and wider programme team, ensuring that the programme’s agreed methods and standards are successfully implemented within the project. 

As the Programme Benefits Manager, you will play a key role in the successful management and delivery of the programme benefits and will also be responsible for liaising with the RN Portfolio benefits lead ensuring compatibility with portfolio objectives.

•    Has a pro-active and detail-oriented approach, able to work collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure programme and project milestones are achieved.

•    You will bring strong experience and practitioner-level understanding of best practice benefits management. 

•    Has the ability to manage priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
•    Delivery and Leadership. Provide visible and effective leadership, lead benefits management and work with the programme manager and RN Portfolio to deliver the business case benefits and outcomes. Develop clear vision and standards and design and implement a best practice benefits management and realisation approach for the programme. Support on building benefits management and realisation capability across the programme team.  


•    Business Case. Articulate and quantify benefits for the programme business case - Work closely with Programme Manager, RN Portfolio and policy leads, analytical and finance colleagues to articulate and quantify benefits to support refinement of the programme business case decision points. 


•    Benefits Management Strategy. Define and shape the benefits management strategy taking account of the wider organisation methodology.

•    Integrate benefits realisation with the programme plan - Ensuring benefits are identified and mapped to strategic objectives, and benefits realisation plans are aligned with the programme plan, and work closely with the Planning Lead to implement a benefits-led approach to programme planning, delivery, prioritisation and monitoring of critical milestones, activities, outcomes and benefits realisation including change control and assurance. Identify risks to benefits realisation. Develop and propose mitigations. Support the delivery of emerging priorities to ensure sufficient programme maturity. 


•    Tracking and Reporting. Establish the mechanism for co-ordinated and consistent tracking and reporting of benefits through the project lifecycle and into realisation.

•    Benefits Mapping. Co-ordinate workshops, map benefits and ensure alignment. Circulate for agreement and approval. Work with a range of stakeholders to validate and test dependencies.

•    Stakeholder Management. Work with Stakeholders and wider benefits management community to ensure benefits are identified, understood, owned, and maximised. Briefs key stakeholders ahead of benefits reviews. Engage with the RN Portfolio Office to enhance and improve benefits management best practice.

Essential experience and skills:

•    Experience and a proven track record of benefits management in a Programme/Portfolio environment.

•    Understanding of and experience in utilising, a range of structured programme and project management methodologies.

•    Strong stakeholder engagement experience, comfortable working with a wide variety of stakeholders.
 
•    A pro-active approach to problem solving, communicating this to and influencing others.

•    Strong analytical skills, an advocate of information and impact analysis, with ability to model multiple options, make effective decisions and recommendations.

•    Highly organised and disciplined with evidence of quality delivery at pace.

•    APM Practitioner Qualification
•    APM Registered Project Professional
