Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group, focused on developing defence and aerospace solutions for customers across the world. We are currently the second largest space company and one of the top ten defence companies, with sites in the UK, the rest of Europe and further afield.

We are presently looking for an experienced engineer to take on the role of a Product Design Authority to join our Communications Product Engineering group. This role is based from our Newport site but includes the potential to travel across our other UK sites. You will be responsible for being the Technical lead for an intelligent routing platform, designed to operate in a MANET environment.

Product Design Authority

The role involves working within the UK Defence industry, requiring the applicant to be capable of being security cleared to a UK SC level.

As a part of the role, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a software development team to drive the design, implementation, and integration of new features into an intelligent router platform

Reporting directly to the Systems Engineering Team Lead you will join the team who are currently tasked to complete features, demonstrations, and releases to achieve:

- Implementation of MANET and traffic control based features to support customer demonstrations and key strategic campaigns

- Increased product security

- Increased management support for the device, including internal and external device management

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

- Liaising with product marketing teams to agree upon a set of technical implementation features for an intelligent router designed to operate in a MANET environment

- Architecting technical solutions for these features, to allow software development teams to implement the agreed solution

- Guiding the software development team during the implementation phase

- Generation of test strategies

- Generation of Design Pack information, allowing the completed product to be placed on the market

Secondary activities will include:

- Assisting with the generation of source code to implement all aspects of the software detailed design providing integration of software onto the target platform

- Software technical support

This role may involve travel to European Airbus D&S sites and international Suppliers/Customers. As such you must be able to travel accordingly.

We are looking for applicants with the following skills and experience:

- Knowledge of all aspects of IP networking and next-generation management protocols.

- Knowledge of Linux based operating systems

- Knowledge of C, and C coding practices highly advantageous

- Knowledge In-depth knowledge of Linux command line networking functions highly advantageous.

- An understanding of the Systems Engineering process from project inception to product delivery
