About the role

Here at Babcock International we're looking for a technically astute Electrical Estimator / Electrician to join our growing engineering services business.

Mission Systems is transforming and we need you to support our drive for growth, leading our teams through exciting and sometimes challenging situations. You'll be at the forefront of incoming transactional tasking across a number of engineering contracts. Focussing on managing requirements capture and technical solution generation at the early stages of opportunities, through to bid submission in a varied and dynamic engineering environment. You'll be responsible for the production of technical solutions, quantity assessments for materials and the return of standardised commercial offers to customers.

You'll play a key role in growing our contracts and building strong customer relationships, implementing our ambitious strategy. You'll help drive growth and the role brings responsibility and the opportunity to work on some key UK Defence and Security contracts.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Working as a key member of the Prime Contract Office (PCO) which provides end-to-end delivery of contract tasking and projects, you'll be a key customer interface for all aspects of scoping, requirements capture, solution generation and pricing.
• Producing and/or co-ordinating the collation of bottom-up labour estimates for a variety of engineering tasks, including, but not limited to:
  • electrical design, installations and testing;
  • data installations - CAT5/6/7/e and fibre optic, including containment, separation, termination, splicing and testing requirements;
  • mechanical and electrical assemblies;
  • fabrication;
  • Installation of various systems, e.g., satcom, RF, WiFi, building management, etc.
• The accurate pricing of tasking to agreed contract SLA/KPIs. You'll consistently apply contractually-agreed pricing principles within all estimates.
• Undertaking site surveys to clarify scope, capturing detailed requirements and key dependencies, assumptions and exclusions.
• Ensuring risk reduction, efficiency and value for money are met, in-line with customer and business needs.
• Supporting the business with input into project schedules, risk identification and other project documentation.
• Interfacing with customer stakeholders, including commercial teams to discuss pricing approaches and deal with any pricing queries in a professional manner.
• Ensuring consistency of output in terms of written solutions, commercial caveats and pricing structure.
• Contributing to continuous improvement of estimating and other business functions to ensure a high level of conversion of estimates to orders and subsequent successful and profitable delivery.
• Supporting the Proposals and Estimating Manager, as required, in the preparation of bid documentation, specifications, tender, Gate and proposal documents for internal review.

What do I need to do the role?

You're someone who can manage a diverse portfolio of changing priorities with a positive and flexible approach. You'll challenge yourself and others to deliver a quality output and confidently liaise with customers and suppliers.

You continuously champion high performance, challenge the status quo, actively seek out different perspectives and speak up. We'll need you to collaborate and make a positive impact each day.
Electrical experience is essential but awareness of other engineering disciplines is also highly desirable.

We'd also like you to have all or some of the following:

• City & Guilds parts 1 and 2 in Electrical Installations.
• City & Guilds 2391/2394/2395 certificate of inspection and testing of electrical installations.
• City & Guilds 2392 level 3 certificate of inspection and testing of electrical installations.
• Working knowledge of the Code of Practice for the In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (4th Edition).
• Must possess (or be willing to gain) a formal, appropriate Health and Safety Qualification. For example, the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification.
• Must possess (or be willing to gain) an adequate knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) 2015 Regulations.
