Here at Serco we're looking for a Revenues Assistant to join us at Peterborough City Council. Reporting into the Recovery Manager, you will process Council Tax information and Business Rates and update integrated computer systems to ensure the production of accurate bills for payment.

The Revenues Assistant will process amendments to accounts including changes to occupation, council tax banding changes, relief, discount and exemption entitlement and changes to payment methods, referring any complex cases to a Senior Local Taxation Officer for resolution. You will process bailiff schedules and returns accurately updating the relevant accounts and be expected to attend the Magistrates Court (where required) to interview customers.

Under strict guidelines, the postholder will make payment arrangements with customers contacting the service, ensuring the correct confirmation letter is issued. You will also deal with refunds, write offs, credit and debit memos and pass for appropriate authorisation and make referrals to the Property Inspectors for void cases, exemptions, occupations and recovery cases.

Other administrative duties will include maintaining accurate records and prepare written communications to the customer and other organisations, deal with correspondence as well as undertake general housekeeping on the Council Tax systems. You will deal with system reports and incoming phone calls (both internal and external) for the Revenues Teams within Shared Transactional Services.

What you'll need to do the role
Whilst experience is preferred, it is not essential as you will be provided with the training and development you need to get you up to speed. Experience using a EDRM system would be advantageous, however more importantly, you'll have excellence communication skills.
