ABOUT ERSOU

ERSOU is the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, that oversees and delivers a regional level response to Serious and Organised Crime, and Counter Terrorism Policing for the Forces in the Eastern Region. ERSOU is made up of both Officers and Police Staff from across the entire region, and works closely with the 7 Forces and National Partners. The departments are unique, in that they are able to offer opportunities to work and develop individuals professionally in specialist areas, often delivering capabilities that are provided by local forces.

These roles are in CTP East which is part of a national network dedicated to protecting the public from the threat of terrorism. The unit has officers covering all four areas of the Government's CONTEST strategy - Protect, Prepare, Prevent, and Pursue.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 people to join the team to help us in our fight against this threat.

By joining one of our specialist teams, you'll be able to develop your skills in a niche and exciting role, while helping to identify and disrupt those who want to cause serious harm to our communities through terrorist means.

THE ROLE

The unit currently has an exciting opportunity for two permanent Intelligence Researcher positions. Working within the Research and Analysis team, you will be responsible for collecting and collating a diverse range of information in support of tactical and strategic priorities relevant to the unit. Your work will directly assist the analysts and other intelligence staff to produce high quality products which conform to the Government's CONTEST Strategy. You will need to be familiar with common IT software, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel. It is essential that the successful candidate has a positive, flexible, approach to working, has the ability to manage multiple tasks and can maintain discretion within a confidential environment.

Experience & Qualifications:
  • Experience in working with Windows based software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to interrogate data from multiple systems, working to tight deadlines
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interrogate a range of databases and systems to identify intelligence of value to departments or individuals.
  • Conduct daily scanning or data input activities as required to assist in understanding of threat, risk and vulnerability.
  • Liaise with customers to define research requirements, asking key questions to clarify understanding and providing advice on opportunities and limitations that exist.

Hours of work:

The working hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:00 with the option of flexible working and the option to take time off in lieu.

Travel commitment:

The position is an office-based role located in central Hertfordshire but on occasion the post holder may be required to travel outside of the region to attend meetings and training using a pool car. As such possession of a valid UK driving licence would be an advantage. These additional working and travel requirements may be negotiable and will be reimbursed in line with Force Policy. The successful candidate will be employed by Bedfordshire Police.

VETTING:

Due to the sensitivities of the role all applicants are asked to maintain discretion about their application.
